Press release:
NEW YORK — Oct. 28, 2021.
“Black Widow: Recharged“, the modern sequel to the original twin-stick shooter by Atari®, in collaboration with developers Adamvision Studios and SneakyBox Studios, captures prey today on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S and One, Atari VCS, and PC for Steam and Epic Games Store.
Defend the web from pesky insect invaders as a deadly black widow spider in quick-paced, twin-stick action. Collect cash icons for points, simultaneously charging the arachnid’s web attack. Earn powerups enhancing the widow’s attacks and abilities, like devious acid blasts leaving bullet trails harmful to enemies and another slowing all foes.
Pulverize pests like mosquitos to generate points, prioritizing pink versions which drop powerups. Face off against all-new enemy types like the shooting bug who maneuvers around the black widow, continuously firing projectiles. Battle it out while grooving to a pumping synthwave soundtrack from award-winning composer Megan McDuffee, who also provides the tunes for the upcoming Asteroids: Recharged and Breakout: Recharged.
Push the black widow to her limit in 30 challenges, some crafted to test mastery of specific powerups while others were created solely to offer players brutally difficult scenarios. Even more challenges await on the Atari VCS, offering those seeking the greatest in arcade anarchy the most demanding tasks possible, alongside support for the Atari Wireless Classic Joystick.
Enjoy the 1982 classic in an all-new neon-inspired aesthetic coupled with smooth, high refresh rate support on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Show off prowess in online leaderboards and team up with another black widow in couch co-op, pushing the arcade chaos to even greater degrees.
“Black Widow was a classic in its own right, and was the grandmother of all the great twin-stick shooters we enjoy today,” said Wade Rosen, CEO, Atari.
“Now we’re excited to bring up a punched up, Recharged, version of this arcade classic for both our original fans and a whole new generation.”
Black Widow: Recharged is available now on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store for Windows PC, and the Atari VCS for $9.99. The Atari VCS versions each feature exclusive content and are optimized to work with the new Atari Wireless Classic Joystick.
Black Widow: Recharged supports English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and simplified and traditional Chinese language text.
