The US-based indie games horror publisher and production company DreadXP and indie games developer Akabaka (the makers of “Chromatose”), are today super excited and happy to announce that their Lovecraftian dating simulator “Sucker for Love: First date” is now available for PC via Steam and itch.io.

With Sucker for Love: First Date, DreadXP and indie developer Akabaka put the “love” back into “Lovecraftian horror,” tasking you with conducting occult rituals in order to win the affection of an Eldritch goddess in this subversive and bizarre take on the “otome” visual novel dating genre.

Sucker for Love: First Date stars a trio of bubbly Eldritch goddesses to “romance,” each with their own unique personalities and menacing auras. There’s Ln’eta, a cute Cthulhu-like entity that is an affectionate sweetheart with a jealous streak; Estir, the elegant self-proclaimed royalty loves the color yellow and the finer things in life; and last but not least, there’s Nyanlathotep, whom at first may be intimidating but has a certain je ne sais quoi that often leads to those around her being completely enraptured.

Your heart will race as you try to survive the many trials of Sucker for Love: First Date, with the fate of your soul at risk, in a cataclysmic quest to obtain a smooch. There may be many fish in the sea, but the goddesses of the Necronomicon are sinfully sweet!

“We’re thrilled to launch the weird, wild, and whimsical delight that is Sucker for Love: First Date and are proud of the journey that the game has had,” said Patrick Ewald, owner and producer at DreadXP.

Together, we’ve plotted out an episodic series based on the original and very popular Sucker for Love concept, which Akabaka had made in just ten days for one of our earliest titles, Dread X Collection 2. It’s incredibly gratifying and exciting for us to introduce fans today to this full-fledged visual novel, and we hope to see them return for more later this year.”

“When I started in game design, I didn’t think I’d be making a Cthulhu horror/dating simulator. But I’m glad it’s where I ended up,” said developer Joseph “Akabaka” Hunter.

Sucker for Love: First Date is based on the microgame Sucker for Love: Prelude, which premiered in the horror anthology Dread X Collection 2. Fans of the original experienced but a taste of the occult romantic madness that lies ahead; there’s a full cultist course to cultivate in Sucker For Love: First Date.

The game cleverly re-imagines the visual novel genre through immersive mechanics, with each decision significantly impacting how the game plays and the story unfolds. Sucker for Love: First Date kicks off the three-part Sucker for Love series, each featuring unique protagonists and twists.
