Just recently I got the chance to play the PC demo of Queen Bee Games action adventure/Tower Defense game “Onion Force“. And it sure didn´t take long before I started to feel those tower defense, action and adventure vibes. As “Onion Force” pretty much throws you into the heat of the battle from the very start. And even though I have played quite a lot of tower defense games in the past. I still think that “Onion Force” offers a “different” and “unique” kind of gameplay experience. I mean, just the graphics, characters and design alone make the game stand out from the crowd. And there is a comedy and cartoony feel to “Onion Force” as well (we can thank the ex-Disney animator Steven Cassidy for that game feature). I would also like to point out that the music was really catchy, even though some tracks sounded a “bit” tryppy at times.
So, what about the actual gameplay then? Well, there are all sorts’ towers, upgrades and equipment in the demo of “Onion Force”, and I bet that the full version will offer even more in-game candy. Even so, I have to admit that I liked the game’s art style the most. As I´m a huge fan of all kinds of cartoons, because I grew up watching shows such as Transformers, Tom & Jerry, Garfield with many more. And “Onion Force” is 100% cartoon:ish to the bone. Other than that, you get three different playable characters and three unique play styles in the game.
So the replay value should be rather high in the full version for sure, and it´s crazy easy to pick up and play “Onion Force” as well. However, the game is pretty darn hard even on the easiest difficulty setting. In short, “Onion Force” isn’t “walk in the park” kind of challenge. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun while I was recording my video for “Onion Force” (even though I had to do quite a lot of re-takes due to the “die-hard” kind of in-game difficulty).
So if you´re a fan of Tower Defense games. Then you might want to consider giving Queen Bee Games “Onion Force” (the game is available to Windows, MAC and Linux) a try, speaking of which. I just found out that “Onion Force” got greenlit on Steam Greenlight just recently (there might even be an iOS and Android version of “Onion Force” in the near future). So keep your eyes open for the full version of the game on Steam people!
Pros:
+ Funny, smooth and beautiful art style
+ Lovely music (who needs drugs with music like this?)
+ A good amount of game content that will keep you occupied for quite sometime (towers, upgrades, enemies, power-ups , maps etc.)
Cons:
– More game modes for the full game would be nice
– I would love to see some upgrades for the barricade around your king
– Some people might not like the “mobile-like” vibes
