Since I´m an honest person, I might just as well kick-off this review with style. Sure, I “might” upset some people in the process (here it comes!), but I really like “Overwatch” more than “Team Fortress 2“. Wait, what is that? I think I hear some incoming salt waves coming my way. Nevertheless, I’ll just split that salty tsunami like Mosses and ignore it, because what I’m about to write is my honest opinions.
And for those who don’t know what “Overwatch” is all about. Then please allow me to give you a proper introduction. As I was saying, “Overwatch” is a first-person multiplayer shooter (occasionally third-person) made by Blizzard (it´s also worth mentioning that the “Overwatch” has some MOBA elements to it as well). And I have played the game for almost a month´s time now. And if I add my own opinion on the genre it also got a bit of a Moba touch to it, and that’s one of the main reasons I “love Overwatch looong tiem!” more than Team Fortress 2 (“Overwatch” is most certainly worth those 59,99 Euros, heh!)
And when I mentioned that “Overwatch” has some Moba elements to it. I just don’t mean that you play as one hero with abilities in a team. Because you also have the mindset of a Moba game when you play. As you have to plan strategies with what heroes you need for the situation. Nevertheless, the part which I love most, is when you combine your heroes abilities with others (especially the ultimate, like Reinhardt’s hammer time with Hanzo’s blue spirit dragon move). Yes, yes, yes, I know that the pink haired Russian chick that looks like the singer “Pink” on steroids ultimate is more practical with Hanzo’s ultimate so calm your sweaty fan boy tits. I picked Reinhardt as an example because he is my favorite hero (tank team player ftw).
Any ways, let´s get back on topic shall we? (no pun intended).
In overall, Overwatch is a truly good action game that’s really easy to get into It has fast paced action that will keep adrenaline flame between your relationship and “Overwatch” at top-notch, but personally I like to live dangerous. So I spice it up with some coffee every time I spend time with Overwatch. “Love the smell of coffee and salty noobs in the morning”
The variety of heroes and unique abilities is glorious, because every single one has its own unique usage to the team. Like soldier 76 (which is an offensive hero), which deals good damage and has off-heal for himself and the team (to be honest, mostly for himself from what I’ve seen). Another excellent thing about him is that I don’t have to be accused of being a wall hacker or aim locker (which I aren’t), because that stuff is legal in this game with his ultimate. “Facka u CSGO”.
And I really dig the map designs in “Overwatch”, and by the looks of it. I would guess that the maps are futuristic versions of real countries and cultures but with different names. Sure, I don’t know if Blizzard has actually taken real places and turned them into maps in “Overwatch”, but it would be cool for guy as myself who haven’t even traveled outside his land-cave, to see what other countries look like in a 3D futuristic version.
Another thing which I really like about the maps in “Overwatch” is the movement and the strategic positions mechanics. As those mechanics has been added to the maps for heroes to explore their different abilities. And it’s always a barrel of laughs to see Lúcio do a tony hack slide on wall and then blast some poor souls off the map to the abyss.
And since I don´t want to go full fan boy overload on “Overwatch”, I would like to point out that I would want to see more end game. By that I mean, more things than just leveling up, collecting character customizations and get achievements. Don’t get me wrong. I like all those things but as a competitive person, I would really like to see something like Dota 2’s ranking system. Having mmr or something similar, that makes you want to become better and win matches. And that’s the reason why I still play dota 2 after all these years. Well, I still suck, but I want to become better, stronger, and faster so that I can dominate all them scrubs.
The dota dream baby!
Pros:
+ Epic fast paced fps action game with moba factors
+ Lots of varieties of heroes with unique abilities and interesting personalities to choose between (more promised in the future)
+ Awesome map designs with movement and strategic positions mechanics that heroes can use to their advantage with their abilities
+ Really easy to get into
Cons:
– More end game
Gameplay: 4/5
Graphics: 5/5
Sound and music: 3.5/5
Controls: 5/5
Replay value: 4/5
Verdict: 4/5
I would recommend “Overwatch” for those who like a fast-paced online action-game that has MOBA elements. As “Overwatch” is a really nice mix of both. And since Blizzard adds new content (+updates) to the game, “Overwatch” stays fresh over time.
