The France-based indie games developer Supercube are today very proud and excited to announce that their sci-fi strategy/survival sim “The Pioneers: Surviving Desolation“, is now available via Steam Early Access.

“The Pioneers” places players in the space suits of an astronaut crew recently stranded on Io, the Galilean moon of Jupiter. Players will have to gather resources, overcome hostile storms and more in order to keep their crew alive against impossible odds.

As players start their intense adventure in “The Pioneer”s they’ll need to choose three crew members from a pool of fifteen each with different capabilities and specialties. With the constant pressure of survival on their minds, players will have to juggle each of their crew members’ strengths and weaknesses in order to adapt.

A key part of the game for players will be exploration. With multiple varied biomes filled with valuable resources needed to stay alive, exploring the dangers of Io is imperative. Low gravity, volcanoes, seismic activity and magnetic storms are always a possibility and players will need to do whatever they can to prepare for each including carefully monitoring beacons due to sulfur wind.

After gathering precious resources players can use them to build up their base. There are a variety of facilities for players to create in order to make a suitable home for their crew members. From crafting equipment to improved engineering and healthcare, each facility will make Io more bearable. During Early Access, Supercube plans to continue updating the game using player’s feedback and help. And with multiple ending conditions and numerous strategies to try, players can look forward to a unique experience each time they jump into the game.

Key features:

Explore – Io may be dangerous but it is also home to beautiful, desolate landscapes. Board a rover or a flying drone and venture out to gather precious resources in the various biomes of Io. Explore the land and collect important scientific data to accomplish your mission.
Build – Produce materials, build modules and engineering systems, craft wearable equipment and make food. Utilize the game’s advanced health system to monitor everyone carefully to keep them alive.
Survive – Volcanoes, seismic activity, sulfur winds and magnetic storms will put nearly constant pressure on your crew. Anticipate and adapt. Your crew’s life depends on it.
Manage – Start with 3 different characters chosen randomly from a pool of 15. Adapt to their strengths and weaknesses and use everything they have at their disposal to survive.
Simulate – Multiple winning conditions and endings. Play again and again, take advantage of upgrades, learn the best strategies for survival, and master all of Io’s unforgiving elements.
