It´s funny how faith and life works sometimes, because just earlier today I read an interview with Keiji Inafune (which I did in the latest edition of the Swedish Gaming magazine Level). And he spoke about his past days at Capcom and his memories of the Megaman series (dreams, hopes, expectations, ups, downs and in-betweens). Inafune also spoke a lot about “Mighty No. 9“, but since the game has caused a lot of controversies (all the delays, technical issues etc.). I can´t really say that I paid all that much attention to that particular part of the interview. Any ways, while I was reading the interview. I started to daydream myself away to the days when I used to play the old-school Megaman games on the NES system (I was about 6-7 years old at the time).
And before I had a chance to beat up some Megaman bosses in the world of dreams, reality kicked in and ruined my day dreaming. However, this time it was a good thing. You see. I snapped out off my day dreaming when a hardcore NES friend of mine informed me that Amaweks (Paulo Andrés, his a Brazilian rom hacker/modder) released his “Mega Man Redux” game not so long ago (the rom hack was released on the 14th of February this year). So, what exactly is “Mega Man Redux” then? Well, it´s an improved and hacked rom version of the original “Mega Man” game (the graphics have been redone to look like a late NES release). In the matter of fact, this would be the actual description for “Mega Man Redux”:
“Mega Man 1 Nes – Graphical Redux by Amaweks.
An extensive graphical hack that makes the stages graphically more colorful, less mono-tones, and change the “anime” pixel art style sprites to a shaded type.
Changes:
Almost all the tiles and sprites have been redesigned in new pixel art style (from “anime” stile to a shaded style).
Almost all the color palettes were changed to pair with the new pixelart style, to make the stages more colorful and harmonious.
Where there was space was added new graphics in stages (clouds, fences, pipes, etc), with the aim of making them more detailed and colorful.” – Amaweks
And I have to say that I´m really impressed by all the love, hard work and dedication that Amaweks has shown for his “Mega Man Redux” project. So if you´re a fan of the old-school “Mega Man” games. Then you should most definitely give “Mega Man Redux” a try! (you can download and play the game for free on PC via any NES emulator of your choice).
