Just a couple of days ago I stumbled up on Kefir Games upcoming adventure Jrpg anime-like game “Moon Child” (for Windows and MAC, a PS4 and Xbox One version “might” follow at a later time), and so far I really like what I´ve seen from the game. Especially since the game is said to be inspired by animes such as “Princess Mononoke”, “Future Boy Conan” and games such as “The Legend of Zelda“, “Monster Hunter”, “Wonder Boy”, “Terraria” and “Spellbound” (I actually think that “Moon Child” look and feel like a mix of “Silver”, “Rune” and “Skyrim”).

moon child the wilderness

I´m most likely not the only one that thought of “Skyrim” when I saw the Kickstarter trailer for “Moon Child”.

I even found the story of “Moon Child” to be a rather interesting one:

“The Earth is dying. Monsters always have tried to destroy the humankind on centuries and centuries of evilness and subterfuges with no success… but finally they have found the way. They focus their dark power against the Sun to create the biggest eclipse ever and cover all earth with darkness. Life is disappearing slowly and at the same time, people loses their dreams and happiness. No possible salvation. Or maybe yes. Moon has a child. He is a Kiowa native and lives in the jungle with his tribe. His name is Kooy and means “wolf” in kiowa’s lenguage. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’ll become the last hope for the planet. Help Kooy to destroy powerful monsters and close all portals around, explore abandoned villages finding secrets and treasures, survive hunting animals into the wild and discover his real origin and fate while you live an epic adventure across the world.”

moon child hunting

Yes, you can hunt in the world of “Moon Child” (you do so in-order to improve your hunt skills to collect meat, skin or other materials. You also do so to survive and to create different kinds of gear).

However, the sad reality is that it takes a whole lot to be successful on Kickstarter (or any other crowdfunding platform for that matter). As the competition is very hard. You see. It appears as if “Moon Child” has ended up in the shadow of other titles on Kickstarter right now. As “Moon Child” is nowhere near it´s 150,000 Euros Kickstarter goal (there is about 148,000 Euros missing at this time, with 16 days to go on “Moon Child´s” Kickstarter campaign), and I find that to be a real shame. Because I find “Moon Child” to be a rather impressive and promising title, so it would be a big  let down for me (and others) if “Moon Child” just fades away into the nothingness….

moon child monster

The monster is just about to meet his or her maker.

I mean, just check out some of these cool features:
– Solve mental challenging riddles in order to close portals
– Explore caverns and ancient books
– Search every corner to find secret treasures or settlements with side quests
– Receive special rewards from villagers whom you help
– Hunt animals and searching for food in order to survive alone in the world
– Tame particular animals to discover hidden zones on the map
– Non-linear gameplay with apparently indestructible monsters with a weapon based weakness
– Craft new weapons and armor to destroy monsters

moon child syberia

“Syberia” is that you?

Nevertheless, it´s going to take a whole lot for Kefir Games to reach their 150K Euro Kickstarter goal on time. Then again, it´s not game over for “Moon Child” until the Kickstarter clock has counted down to zero. In other words, there “might” still be some hope left for the game. So I wish Kefir Games the best of luck on Kickstarter!
