Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters 2016″ movie officially failed on more levels than one, and even more so in my opinion in our review–especially with the props used. The original 80’s iteration had better props, costumes, ghosts, plot points; and even casting talent. Now when I say that, it has absolutely nothing to do with an all-female cast. In fact, the talent tapped for the film was excellent, the script and director were the problem. Paul Feig had no idea what he was doingand that’s a serious fact.

Could you really say no to that face?

However, IDW has come to the aid of the failed movie, in the form of a comic. You see, the Ghostbusters franchise creator Ivan Reitman co-signs the comic and even agrees with many that it should have been the basis of the failed movie. This last month Ghostbusters unveiled a crossover comic that in more than one way helps bolster the love that the new Ghostbusters that didn’t manage to accrue or establish with the original fan base. Now when you actually read the comic (Ghostbusters 101), it helps to answer a lot of questions the movie left us on cliffhangers with, and more so–rids us of the cameo appearances that the original cast performed since they’re there as the original ’84 team. We also see the gap from Extreme Ghostbusters bridged as well, since Kylie Griffin is included in the comic as a trainer for a new generation of students, and potential future Ghostbusters.

I hardly doubt that the comic could become worse than the “Ghostbusters 2016”. So let’s hope for the best.

If you don’t remember Kylie, she was the only female member on Extreme Ghostbusters in the late 90’s animated show which carried the trap for the team. When she’s giving a tour of the Ghostbusters HQ, the group gets a glimpse at the interdimensional transporter Egon built, and see’s the 2016 Ghostbusters world. This is actually a great way to save the reboot, as now it can just be written off as a true separate dimension that exists with those Ghostbusters vs the Ghostbusters we know, being Spengler, Venkman, Stanz, and Zeddemore.

I don’t know about you, but I find the comic designs to be rather well-made.

The synopsis of the comic is pretty interesting. The 80’s Ghostbusters find a pool of this time positively charged slime, and try to introduce some negative to offset it, but it runs awry. It causes an uptick in ghostly activity to increase that the 2016 Ghostbusters have to deal with. So in typical fashion the EPA steps in, once again led by Walter Peck. We also see Janine Melnitz’s niece Cait and friends – who got in trouble for doing a little amateur ‘busting – attend a Ghostbusters “training” class.

Who you gonna call?

And in classic Ghostbusters fashion, their trainees accidentally set in motion a cataclysmic paranormal event. We can already see each Ghostbuster paired with their female counterparts and mixed up to keep things interesting, which leads a lot to wonder if we’ll see an animated movie crossover or team up, so we can actually get Ghostbusters III in some fashion bridging the gap between the generations. Either way an eventual meeting is inevitable in the comic, and we can’t wait. The mini-series will be pretty successful if the first entry is any indication so we just have to wait and hope for the best.
