I (Robin Ek, TGG) just got blown away by Pixelnicks (Nick Gregory) upcoming adventure-platformer “Eagle Island” (for Windows, MAC and Linux). You see, the game is like a modern take on Super Nintendo classics (games such as “Super Metroid” and “Yoshi’s Island”):

“Hey Robin,

My name’s Nick, and I’m working on Eagle Island; Super Nintendo classics-inspired game that mixes old school gameplay (Yoshi’s Island / Super Metroid) with modern styles from games such as Rogue Legacy and Spelunky

Explore the avian world of Eagle Island with Quill and one of his loyal owls, Koji. Discover lush forests, treacherous caverns and uncover the ruins of long lost civilizations. Finally, confront the monstrous eagle, Armaura, in a desperate attempt to rescue Koji’s brother, Ichiro, from her clutches. With its falconry-based gameplay within uniquely generated worlds, Eagle Island is set to a beautifully modernised pixel art aesthetic and provides a breath of fresh air to the platforming genre.” – Nick Gregory

I don’t know about you, but I think “Eagle Island looks like a mix of “Yoshi’s Island”, “Super Metroid” and “The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse”. That’s also why I’m very interested in this game, because I enjoyed every single one of those titles.

And in my opinion, that’s the vibes that I got from the very first trailer for “Eagle Island” (you can watch the video further down the page). Furthermore, the game’s features looks rather interesting so far:

Key features:
– Meet Quill and Koji (a boy and his owl). Quill and Koji embark on a quest to save Koji’s beloved brother – Ichiro.
– Acquire totems’ feathers. Acquire the feather of a legendary totem and see how powerful Koji becomes.
– Useful perks. Delve into unique areas available in game to find useful items which can boost your heroes!
– Procedural generation. It took me a few months to get it right. No templates, no trickery – every area is carved out uniquely.

That sure sounds freaking awesome with no doubt. However, “Eagle Island” needs to collect £20,000 via Kickstarter in-order to become a reality (there is about £18,300 missing at this moment). Nevertheless, the game is off to a good start, and it’s very likely that “Eagle Island” will be fully funded. Since there is still 33 days left to go on the game’s Kickstarter campaign. So I wish Nick Gregory the best of luck with his success on Kickstarter and Steam Greenligt =) And “if” everything works out just fin in the end, then we should be able to play the full-version of “Eagle Island” in July next year.
