I think it’s safe to say that it’s rather easy to miss out on some of the smaller and less-known titles during big Gaming events such as E3, PAX and Gamescom. Well, sadly enough that’s exactly what happened to me during the E3 2017 event. Long story short, Steel Mantis announced their brutal 2D action-platformer “Valfaris” (the game is said to launch sometime during 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One) during E3 2017 (the game is made by the same team who brought us “Slain: Back from Hell”). Well, I totally missed out on “Valfaris” announcement due to everything else that I had to cover during this year’s E3 event…
In the matter of fact, it was just pure luck that I heard about the game at all. You see, earlier today I spotted the following Steam post (it’s called “Things are heating up!”) by Steel Mantis (it seems like Steel Mantis is looking for some new staff members who could work on “Valfaris”?):
“User Testing
In about a months time we will be ready for our first round of closed user testing.
If you are interested in being a part of development and helping us make Valfaris taste like intergalactic heavy metal mayhem flavoured space gibs, just fill in this form below. Many thanks and hugs from the team!” – Steel Mantis via Steam
That sounds really interesting with no doubt, but I bet that quite a few of you are wondering “So, what exactly is Valfaris all about then”? Well, this is the actually story and game description for “Valfaris”:
“Skulls in space! Gore in space! Metal in space! From the team that brought you cult hit Slain: Back From Hell, the intrepid space cadets at Digital Uppercut and Steel Mantis are thrilled to present Valfaris, a heavy metal infused 2D action-platformer”
“After mysteriously vanishing from galactic charts, the fortress of Valfaris has suddenly reappeared in the orbit of a dying sun. Once a self-contained paradise, the grandiose citadel now plays host to an ever-growing darkness. Therion, a fearless and proud son of Valfaris, returns to his home to uncover the truth of its doomed fate and to challenge the arcane evil at its very heart” – Steel Mantis
So, what about game features then? Well, these are some of the said key features for Valfaris:
– Skulls in space! Gore in space! Metal in space!
– Savagely reduce foes to piles of gibs with an array of brutal weaponry
– Explore a diverse range of tainted environments as you venture ever deeper into the dark world of Valfaris
– Dominate ranks of deadly enemies and bosses, from the weird to the grotesque (and some that are just grotesquely weird)
– Gorge your eyes on devastatingly awesome pixel art hand-crafted by Andrew Gilmour
– Feel the power of a seismic soundtrack by extreme metaller and former Celtic Frost guitarist, Curt Victor Bryant
– Forged from the ground-up by the team behind cult hit Slain: Back From Hell
That sounds pretty cool I have to say. Furthermore, I couldn’t help to notice that “Valfaris” looks and feels like a mix of “Doom Troopers: Mutant Chronicles“, “Abuse”, “Slain” and a really old cartoon movie called “Heavy Metal” (the original movie was released back in 1981). That’s also I’m very interested in “Valfaris”, as I truly like those games and the “Heavy Metal” movie (I’m a huge Metal fan). So I can’t wait to give “Valfaris” a go once it launches for PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime next year (the E3 2017 announcement trailer is cool and Metal as fu**!).
And with that said, what do you guys and girls think about “Valfaris” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
