Today is a good day if you just happen to be a fan of RPGs and roguelike games, because HypeTrain Digital just informed us that Ink Stains Games (the makers of “12 is Better Than 6“) has launched a Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming open-world roguelike RPG “Stoneshard” (the game is in development for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch):

“Hello! Stoneshard crowdfunding campaign is live! You can download a free playable prologue from the project’s page.”HypeTrain Digital

stoneshard the hero

“Stoneshard” is an open-world roguelike RPG that has been inspired by awesome games such as “Diablo”, “ADOM”, “The Banner Saga” and “Darkest Dungeon”.

Nice! So, what is “Stoneshard” all about then? And when is the game coming out? “Stoneshard” is said to launch to PC via Steam by the end of this year some time, and here’s what the game is all about (in my oppinon, “Stoneshard” looks like a mix of “Chrono Trigger”, “The Settlers”, “Diablo”, “Wizard of Legend” and “The Binding of Isaac”):

“Inspired by legendary classic titles such as Diablo and ADOM and modern games like The Banner Saga and Darkest Dungeon, Stoneshard invites you to shape the future of the kingdom of Aldor… And die a lot. Stoneshard has already been in development for more than 2 years and is planned to release on Steam Early Access in Late 2018, with console release to follow. The game is being developed by the talented team of Ink Stains Games in partnership with an indie publisher HypeTrain Digital.”

stoneshard items and gear

“Stoneshard” is said to contain +100 different weapons. In other words, there should be plenty of weapons for you to use against your foes.

As for game features, here are some of Stoneshard’s key features:

– Embark on the adventure through a vast procedurally-generated medieval world
– Lead a Caravan of valiant allies and expand your following
– Deal with physical or psychological traumas & aid them with medicine or drugs
– Upgrade and customize your character any way you want to
– Wage war to vampires, undead and mercenaries with 100+ weapons
– Follow the will of ancient Gods and gain some of their power in return
– Return to the journey with a new hero after your character dies in battle

stoneshard battle mode

You can upgrade and customize your character as you please in “Stoneshard”, and that should come in handy as you then could create a character that fits your play style.

As good as all of that might sound though, there is a little catch to be found in all of this. You see, Ink Stains Games need to collect 30,000 USD via Kickstarter in-order for “Stoneshard” to become a reality. However, the game is off to a good start since “Stoneshard” has already managed to raise over 5,200 USD in a very short period of time. Furthermore, there’s still 31 days left to go on Stoneshard’s Kickstarter campaign as well.

stoneshard the world map

Stoneshard handle death a little differently from most other games. You see, when your hero dies in “Stoneshard”, you get to continue your journey with a brand-new hero. Other than that, doesn’t the game’s world map make you think about “The Settlers II”? That’s at least the first thing that came to my mind when I saw Stoneshard’s world. map.

So I’m quite sure that Ink Stains Games will be able to reach their Kickstarter goal on time. Other than that, there is a free prologue for “Stoneshard” that you could download and enjoy right now (the prologue is about 2-3 hours long in terms of gameplay, and you can play it on a Windows 7, 8 or 10 system).

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to give that one a try, because the Kickstarter video for “Stoneshard” made me really interested in the game (I’ll be sure to sort out a video + PC preview post as soon as possible!).

As for here and now though, you can watch the latest gameplay trailer for “Stoneshard” further down the page =) And with that said, what’s your take on “Stoneshard” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
