In “The Journey Down: Chapter one” you go on a wacky adventure to not only fix your plane, but to unravel what happened to Captain Kaonandodo (his the long-lost father of Bwana and Kito) in “The Journey Down”, and it’s all wrapped up in a cool Jamaican accent. It all starts when Lina meets up with the main characters looking for a special book, while also on the run. She wants to charter the plane, but it hasn’t flown in 20 years, so it is up to you on fixing it up. How you go about this is by causing small bits to chaos in order to get the parts needed.

the journey down chapter one different area

The game’s jazzy reggae soundtrack and fully voiced cast is on point.

“Journey Down” is a slow-paced point and click adventure game, a game which pulls in the atmosphere that is provided to you. Furthermore, you lie, cheat, and steal to get everyone to do what you need them to, sometimes delivering some nice dark humor.

the journey down chapter one story choice

There are plenty of Tons of hand-painted environments to be found in “The Journey Down: Chapter one”, and the HD art and animations look really good. Other than that, you got different story choices to pick from throughout the game.

As for puzzle solving, you piece puzzles together by combining objects, and tampering with objects in the world. There are a number of objects that I wouldn’t normally think about putting together in real life, but it almost becomes natural in Journey Down (Olive oil, motor oil. What’s the difference?). However, most of the answers to the puzzles are directly in front of you, all that you need to do is be able to see them screaming at you.

The Journey Down is a classic point-and-click saga that has an Afro-Caribbean twist to it. Other than that, the game also offers some very dark humor moments.

Outside of how many of the characters look like they should belong in a horror game, most of the artwork looks and feels truly good. This also goes along with the music and voice acting, all of which was done really well. As a matter of fact, the only thing that seriously bothered me was the very slow pace of Journey Down. So other than that, “The Journey Down: Chapter one” is actually a pretty fun and decent point-and-click adventure game.

the journey down chapter one improved plane

You get the great pleasure to follow the two brother’s Bwana and Kito (the heroes of the game) in their search for the truth about the faith of their long lost father (Captain Kaonandodo), and in-order to do that you will have to solve quite a few puzzles and mysteries along the way.

So if you just happen to like old-school like adventure games and own a Switch console, then you might want to give “The Journey Down” a try.

Pros:
+ The music is done very well
+ Voice acting was very enjoyable
+ Plenty of dark humor and “why did this work?” moments
+ Most of the puzzles are staring you in the face

Cons:
– Characters look freaky to me
– Extremely slow paced

Gameplay: 3/5
Graphics: 3/5
Sound/music: 3.5/5
Controls: 3/5
Replayability: 2/5
Story: 3/5

tgg grade 3 out of 5

Verdict: 3/5
While The Journey down does have an interesting story and characters, the game moved far too slowly for my liking. While the music is good enough for me to listen to for hours on end, but sadly once the puzzles are figured out it would become far too simple to have another play through. However, when everything is done and said. I’m still looking forward to checking out Chapter 2 as soon as I can.
