I’m here to continue my story and review series of “The Journey Down” with my review of Chapter 2. So if you haven’t seen my Switch review for “The Journey Down Chapter 1” just yet, then I would recommend you to check out that review as soon as possible. Because story wise it would make a whole lot more sense if you read my review of Chapter one first.

The puzzles are rather tough in Chapter two, but I see that as something positive. As it offers me (and hopefully others) a really good challenge.
Anyways, as I was saying. Chapter two of “The Journey Down” picks up where everything was left off in Chapter 1 with a plane crash, Bwana and company are rescued in a fishing net. In this new adventure, you have to escape prison, deal with a corrupt city, and pirates all the while needing to find Lina and plot your escape.
However, the question of what happened to Kaunandodo only grows more mysterious. Why? Because you soon find out that he once in this same city and worked with a number of important people until he just disappeared. Of course, telling the story in its own fun and wacky way, this also includes the puzzles and how they are solved.

There’s some really awesome noir cutscenes, graphics and artwork to be found in Chapter two of “The Journey Down”.
This time the scenery changes about four times in the adventure. Keeping this review spoiler free, but you do have several places to explore. With this in mind, make sure that you accomplish everything which you want to and make sure that you have every item that you can find. Because you never know even if the item isn’t to be used in a puzzle later on. I mean, sure. There is often something funny said when the wrong item is used, but the idea is to complete the game right?

Sadly enough, Chapter two still suffers from slow-moving gameplay, and there’s a lot more backtracking than the previous Chapter.
Nevertheless, all in all, I have to say that Chapter 2 is a good follow-up to Chapter one. However, there is still a few things that need to be improved in-order for “The Journey Down” to become an epic adventure game. So I really hope that Chapter 3 will be able to sort all of that out. As for Chapter 2 though, well, if you enjoyed Chapter one. Then you probably don’t want to miss out on for Chapter 2.
Pros:
+ Great music
+ Interesting art direction
+ Tough puzzles
Cons:
– Still slow-moving gameplay
– A lot more backtracking
Gameplay: 3/5
Graphics: 3/5
Sound/music: 3.5/5
Controls: 3/5
Replayability: 2/5
Story: 3.5/5

Verdict: 3/5
If you enjoyed The Journey Down Chapter 1, then you will enjoy Chapter 2 just as much. As there is just as much wacky and sometimes dark humor, along with finding strange ways to get through each spot. So if you haven’t played Chapter 1, then check out my review for it and see if it is something that you would be interested in.
