Fury Unleashed PC preview - A really great roguelite action platformer

In Awesome Games Studio’s roguelite action platformer “Fury Unleashed”, you will battle through amazonian jungles, neo-nazi bunkers and alien hives in an attempt to restore order to the comic book multiverse and prove that you are the most furious hero of them all.

“Fury Unleashed” has a comic book-like setting, and the game’s visuals has been inspired by the “Metal Slug” series.

That sure sounds pretty cool huh? Well, it’s just about to get even better. You see, “Fury Unleashed” looks and feels like a mix of “Metal Slug“, “Abuse” and “Metroid“.

That’s also why I think that Awesome Games Studio has made an truly awesome game with “Fury Unleashed” where you slice, explode and shoot your way through ever-changing levels while chasing enemies to rack up high combo counts.

“Fury Unleashed” made me think about a mix of “Abuse”, “Super Metroid” and “Metal Slug”.

However, as “Fury Unleashed” is still in Early Access, it has one significant technical flaw, and that one be the game’s Occasional frame rate dips. Nevertheless, its core gameplay is guaranteed to hook players looking to play a skillful, non-stop shmup.

The boss fights are pretty darn impressive and action intense to the max.

Furthermore, with procedurally generated levels and a wide diversity of weapons, characters, enemies and upgrades. “Fury Unleashed” is as replayable as it is gripping. Ink and blood coats levels as you destroy acid vomiting skeletons, robotic spiders and alien invaders.

Yep, you can customize your hero with a handful of different options in “Fury Unleashed”.

That’s just the half of it though, because there are randomized weapons and armour litters to be found in the game. For example, Fury Unleashed’s levels include everything from fire-spitting assault rifles to devastating rocket launchers and shoulder pads that set enemies on fire.

“Fury Unleashed’s game is on point, the same could also be said about the game’s soundtrack. Furthermore, the replay value is very high as well.

Other than that, collecting Ink from defeated enemies allows you to upgrade the playable characters to make them an even more efficient killing machine. Reskilling is as easy as downgrading skills meaning players can pick and choose how powerful their character is.

There are quite a few different heroic skills and whatnot to pick from in “Fury Unleashed”.

On that note, the Easy mode tones down the difficulty to allow for less strenuous gameplay. I agree with the developers in saying that the ideal gameplay is the standard difficulty.

Why? Because the satisfaction of annihilating enemies is made even greater knowing that you used to struggle against them.

Fury Unleashed’s levels are procedurally generated. In other words, each playthrough that you do will be unique and different.

Despite being in Early Access, Fury Unleashed plays and feels like a full-fledged game. An inconsistent frame rate is my only technical criticism. When loading new areas, dips were infrequent but impactful, halving an otherwise consistent 60 fps to as low as 25 fps when loading new areas.

I got pretty much nothing negative to say about “Fury Unleashed”. However, I did experience some occasional frame rate dips here and there while playing the game, but that’s about the only negative thing that I can think of.

Even so, Awesome Games Studio has still lived up to their name in developing “Fury Unleashed”. As its a really awesome roguelite action platformer with no doubt.

So I honestly can’t wait for the game to leave its Early Access program. As I will be returning to “Fury Unleashed” time and time again in the hopes of breaking my personal combo record.

Simply put, if you like roguelite action platformers (and games such as “Abuse”, “Super Metroid” and “Metal Slug”), then “Fury Unleashed” is the game for you.

Despite being unfinished, “Fury Unleashed” is awesome. Why? Because it is unfinished, it is only going to get better from here. So be sure to keep an close eye on “Fury Unleashed”!
