I’m the RPG type of guy that likes when there is character development with companions and npcs. That involves with romance, friendship or romance. Like Neverwinter Nights, Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age, etc. so I’m wondering if there is going to be something like that in the game?

Team 21
We don’t plan on implementing such features, because it’s not compatible with the other mechanics of DoA. All of the above games that you mention rely heavily on story predetermined characters.

In DoA, you choose your whole party and, with this freedom, also comes the price in form of a restriction of alike features, because it’s impossible to prepare enough believable situations, that would pass to all character combinations.

Jonas TGG
How brutal will the game be? will there be limbs flying everywhere or will it have a lighter approach?

Team 21
We’re not at this stage of development yet. Personally, I’ve had envisioned something like the classical Fallout brutality level, with which you’re probably quite familiar. But in that case, we would get a rating of 16+, which could possibly further decrease already limited (due to our hardcore orientation) amount of potential customers .

We’ll most probably decide after we’ve had more feedback from our backers and fan community. At this moment there’s no blood and gore in our pre-alpha version.

I was really hyped when I read about that you guys are taking influence from Baldur’s gate and Fallout exploring. Miss that feeling when for the first time you explored those worlds. Hope you guys really nail it and get that feeling back. How many hours of exploring do guys expect it to be?

dungeons of aledorn castle

Yep, there´s castles O´plenty in “Dungeons of Aledorn”.

Team 21
Final average playtime is right now a mystery to us as well. But with some calculation of our locations and game design material we might assess it accordingly: The main story plot should take you through fifteen locations.

Side quests should at least double this count. An approximate full exploration of one location should take you about 1.5 hours. Multiply that with thirty locations and you come to just over 50 hours of gameplay.

That’s also a number with which we’d be satisfied, but if we reach specific KS-campaign stretches we’d be only happy to expand the game by additional content, that didn’t make it through the first round of compromises due to actual budget limitations.

Jonas TGG
Are you guys planning to make it multiplayer available?. I missed experiencing the multiplayer in Baldur’s gate and Neverwinter nights 1 because I was so young at the time it was popular. Hoping that I might can relive in it this game.

Team 21
Multiplayer is rather incompatible with dungeon styled genre and even though we’ve experimented with it, we didn’t find the right way of co-op mode implementation that would be adequately enjoyable for both players.

Turn-based combat leads to long waiting times for non-active player and furthermore it’s hard to synchronize the time flow, e.g. when one player is engaged in combat and the second one is still in exploration GUI.

Jonas TGG
How many races and classes will there be, if you can tell that? (You could answer with “many”). I experienced that many RPGS have a shortage of that lately which really takes away a huge bit of fun from the character creation.

I like it when you have a lot of choices to choose between. Hope you guys going to have a demon like race. Love the Tiefling race from NWN.

Team 21
Your questions literally radiate with enthusiasm for NWN and BG! It’s necessary to say, that DoA is primarily dungeon crawler style RPG but with many RPG features rather than pure RPG such as the games you’ve mentioned.

There are 9 races to choose from that may become one of 6 basic character classes, from which each upon gaining enough experience and fulfilling of appropriate class-quest allows you to further specialize in a two different ways. Unfortunately, there’s no playable demon race in the actual build.

dungeons of aledorn rune stones

I wonder if those rune stones will open the gate to hell?

Jonas TGG
Follow up question on question 5. Will the choice of race or class affect the world around you?. Like how npcs, companions or events react to you?. Also will there be a choice to be evil or good as character choice in creation or evil choices in events?

Team 21
A very good question, indeed. We’d really like to add this feature to our game and we’ve already a functioning concept for it at our disposal. But with this amazingly atmospheric feature comes also a great deal of work for both designers and programmers.

That’s why we’ve decided to add it as one of our major stretch goals in upcoming KS campaign and we really hope to reach it.

Jonas TGG
Is there going to be option to able to multi-class with different classes?. Like being a mage/warrior.

Team 21
We don’t have exactly multi-classing, but we have something similar to that, each class has it’s several unique class-specific skills and a few general skills that are known to one (or more) other class/es as well.

Jonas TGG
How lore involved will the game be?, will there be tons of books to read about various of things? And can your character be effected by knowing lore about monsters, herbs, places etc?.

Like knowing weak points of monsters or effecting a conversation because you have knowledge about something

Team 21
It definitely pays off to read books or to ask questions around in DoA. This way many of the players will get to know various plants and minerals needed for many recipes. These ingredients won’t be visible without appropriate knowledge.

Books also serve to researching new spells and earning new alchemistic recipes. Furthermore, you might also discover weaknesses of various creatures throughout the world.

Additionally, there’s also an active achievement to be gained for getting familiar with the DoAs lore during your play (not mentioning the experience gain in the process).

dungeons of aledorn the lab

Could it be Dr Frakensteins body lab?

Jonas TGG
Will there be classical monsters like vampires or werewolves? Love that stuff. P.S: not the twilight stuff. P.S2: can you become one?

Team 21
I can say only that much, that we have both monsters in our game. In the world of DoA werewolves resemble more to the wolf’s with extra deadly powers. On the contrary, vampires are extremely rare in this realm, but will be also one of the most powerful enemies you’ll cross (see the pun?) in our game.

Both types of enemies are part of side quests and it isn’t necessary to defeat them in order to finish the game. Being a werewolf or vampire is currently not possible.

Jonas TGG
How deep will choices affect you and the game’s world?. Adele deep or Justin Bieber deep?

Team 21
I would say Beyoncé deep actually. But seriously, your decisions will often influence the events in the world, be it mostly indirectly. Some of your bad decisions will definitely come later to bite you in … the Beyonce’s most renowned body part.

You decisions will usually lead to the same result, but what you really decide is a way how to achieve them.

For example, you need to get into a building, but it’s up to you, whether you’d march up the front entrance with all your glory and hack your way through the guards or if you ‘d rather sneak past them, using the protective spells and sneaking skills.

I’d love give out more examples, but it’s not possible without spoiling our quests.
