I don’t think that I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien and his “The lord of the rings” books, I also feel the same kind of love for Peter Jackson’s “LOTR” and “The Hobbit” movies.

This might just be the coolest movie collection box that I have ever bought (you get the complete “Lord of the rings” and “The Hobbit” movies series, and that means that you get about 18 hours worth of watching material).

This is also the reason why I decided to pick up the “Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Trilogy” – Extended Edition Blu-ray box (which I did shortly after Christmas last year).

So with that said, I am now actually about to do my very first movie box collection review ever, and I’m going to start off by reviewing the box itself.

The movie box is very cool looking I have to say, be sure not to drop it on your feet though. You see, it’s a rather heavy movie box.

Right off the bat, the movie box has a very cool look and design to it (as seen in the picture above). Furthermore, the box is designed in such a way that the movies won’t fall out when you remove the front cover from the box (now that’s what I would call cleaver design).

It’s also a huge plus that the box comes with a booklet that includes everything that you need to know about the content of each Blu-ray disc (the booklet also contain a whole lot of cool pictures which I have never seen from LOTR and “The Hobbit” before).

The very first “The Hobbit” movie (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”) starts off rather slow, but the movie becomes more action intense further on in the movie.

Anyways, enough of the box. So let’s get down to the actual movies themselves, shall we? And here’s how what I’m going to do. I’m going to do a short review of each movie in the box, and I’m going to do so in chronological order:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) – 4/5

“An Unexpected Journey” is the very first “Hobbit” movie, and while it’s rather slow at times (the first movie more or less sets the setting for the other two movies), it still was a blast to watch.

As it’s a really nice mix of action, adventure, and even comedy. Furthermore, there’s also plenty of memorable scenes to be found in the movie.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) – 4.5/5

The second “Hobbit” movie (“The Desolation of Smaug”) is much more action-oriented than the first movie.

So there is much less talk, and much more ass-kicking so to speak, and that involves everything from orcs, goblins, spiders to an actual dragon.

So all in all, I like the second “Hobbit” movie even more than the first one.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) – 4/5

“The Battle of the Five Armies” is the third and last “The Hobbit” movie, and it’s more or less a mix of the first two movies but with a much more explosive ending to it.

Now, don’t get me wrong, “The Battle of the Five Armies” is a great movie, and there are plenty of highlights to be found in the closing “Hobbit” movie.

However, I just felt like there was something missing in it. So when the movie was over, I couldn’t help to feel like “was this really it?“.

Nevertheless, the third “Hobbit” flick is still a great movie and a worthy ending to the “Hobbit” trilogy.

It feels somewhat unreal that its been 18 years since “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” went up on the big silver screens all over the world, but it’s true. Nevertheless, the extended Blu-Ray edition is well-worth watching even if have already seen the movie on DVD or at the cinemas.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) – 4.5/5

I got a lot of memories from the first LOTR movie, because I arill remember how excited I was when I got a cinema ticket for it back in 2001. Well, now it’s 2019, and the Blu-Ray edition got me just as excited as I was when I first saw “The Fellowship of the Ring” at the cinemas.

Because even though the movie starts off rather slow, it speeds up rather quickly as soon as Frodo becomes the ring barrier (that’s when the big adventure kicks-off for real).

So all in all, “The Lord of the rings” movie trilogy couldn’t have gotten a better start than this, and the Blu-Ray edition just made an already great movie even better.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) – 5/5

The second LOTR movie pretty much took everything that was good with the first movie and improved everything even further.

Furthermore, the action aspects of the movie have been cranked up even more in “The Two Towers” (the battle scenes are very impressing and exciting!).

Simply put, “The Two Towers” is even better (in my opinion) than the first LOTR movie.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) – 5/5

“The Return of the King” (which ist he last and final LOTR movie) is with no doubt one of the most impressive and stunning movies that I’ve ever seen (no matter the movie genre).

I mean, the movie manages to top the top previous LOTR movies, all while presenting a worthy ending to the LOTR movie trilogy.

So I honestly couldn’t wish for anything more really, especially not since the extended Blu-Ray edition contained a handful of scenes which I have never ever seen before.

There are so many awesome scenes, actors, movie moments and memorable quotes to be found in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the rings” movie series. So from my point of view, the extended Blu-Ray movie box is a must buy for fans.

That’s also why I feel like the “LOTR” and “The Hobbit” extended Blu-Ray movie box is worth every cent, as you get tons of extra footage and improved versions of already epic movies.

In other words, this is a must buy kind of movie box for fans of “The Hobbit” and “LOTR”.

Pros:
+ All the Hobbit and LOTR movies in one single box
+ Tons of extra movie footage
+ Every movie is the extended version
+ Topnotch audio, music and visual quality
+ 18 hours of fantasy awesomeness
+ You get a handful of cool stuff with the box
+ The soundtrack for both “LOTR” and “The Hobbit” are absolutely brilliant

Cons:
– Some of the Hobbit movies was a bit slow at times
– More action and less talk would have been nice
– The 70 pounds price tag might be too pricey for some people

I have been a huge Lord of the Rings fans ever since I was a kid. So this collection is pretty much the ultimate collector’s movie box for anyone who loves LOTR.

Especially since you get every single LOTR and Hobbit movie there is plus tons of extra footage on top of that (not to mention the cool stuff that comes with the box).

So if you got the money needed to pick up this box, then you should do so before this Blu-ray collection box gets all sold out.
