Here we go again…blame everything on the video games. That´s a tune that i´ve heard since the early 90s days (Mortal Kombat and Doom anyone?).

Most of the time it involved media rants. But sometimes people even ended up in court over violent video games (both SEGA and Nintendo was in court over “Mortal Kombat” in the 90s for example).

Then we got the case with Jack Thompson (he was a attorney at the time. But not anymore) and his crusade against Rockstar and their GTA series. It´s nothing new under the sun really, as we have heard about this at least 1,000 times before (in different parts of the world).

But i have never heard about a case where “Headteachers threaten to contact police over children playing 18-rated games” before.

It´s 100% true though, as a group of primary schools (And even a secondary academy) from Nantwich, Cheshire (the UK) sent out a letter to the kids parents (the letter went public some day ago).

And this is what the letter said:

“Several children have reported playing or watching adults play games which are inappropriate for their age and they have described the levels of violence and sexual content they have witnessed: Call Of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Dogs Of War and other similar games are all inappropriate for children and they should not have access to them,”

“If your child is allowed to have inappropriate access to any game or associated product that is designated 18-plus we are advised to contact the police and children’s social care as it is neglectful.”

The thing is this. I do agree that kids at primary schools (which are between five to eleven years old in the UK for example) shouldn´t be allowed to play 18+ Rated video games such as “COD“, “GTA” and “Dogs of War“.

call of duty ghosts

COD seems to be a favourite among really young kids to play.

For quite obvious reasons too. So i´m not going to argue over that particular part of this subject. However, i think it´s pretty overkill to threaten the kids with the police.

I mean, wouldn´t it be better to get the parents involved first? And “if” they don´t do anything about it. Then contact the children’s social care.

Because to be honest, i´m quite sure that the police force got way better things to do, then to handle young kids that plays 18+ rated video games….

But what do you guys think? Should the police get involved if kids from primary schools plays adult games?
