Both Google and Facebook are well-known for buying company’s that they really want. But ever since Amazon bought Twitch TV for $970 million last year.
Amazon has become just as notorious as Facebook and Google when it comes to spending big bucks on investments. And if Gamespots sources are right.
Then there´s a licensing deal between 50 to 70 million dollars that´s going down between Crytek and Amazon.
And if that´s true, then it means that Amazon has made yet another big investment in the world of Gaming. It would also mean that Crytek has found a very powerful, but yet unexpected partner.
It may have been a close call for Crytek though. As they have been struggling financially since last year (people have been laid off, and the working morale has been really low).
But this deal with Amazon might just have saved Crytek in the nick of time. However, there is no word on what Amazon plans to do with CryEngine 3.
Then again, Amazon bought the developer Double Helix (Killer Instinct) last year. Amazon also started their very own in-house game studio called “Amazon Game Studios“.
Then you got Amazon´s streaming console “Amazon Fire TV” as well. So there´s quite a lot of fields that Amazon could have practical a use for CryEngine 3.
So i guess that we just have to wait and see what Amazon has in stores for CryEngine 3.
