It´s now official. #GamerGate is a hate group. Well, at least according to Denver Comic Con (which btw takes place in the Colorado Convention Center between 23-25th May) As they have placed #GamerGate in the “Offensive slogans/groups” box. And that puts #GamerGate next to groups such as the KKK, Neo Fascist groups and terrorist groups. In short, if you wear a GamerGate logo on your cloths (or whatever). Then it would be the same thing as wearing a nazi cross for example.

This became clear when Denver Comic Con tweeted out the following earlier today “Wearing a GamerGate shirt would be against our dress code policy of offensive slogans/groups and they would be asked to leave and change”

gamergate is a hate groupd denver comic con

“hateful symbols”? So that means that #GamerGate is now officially a hate group. Well, at least according to Denver Comic Con.

But shortly after that tweet, Denver Comic Con posted an update post on that statement via Facebook. And that post said the following:

“We don´t need to do research because we are not invested in this nonsense; this is NOT our mission, NOT our cause and you´re not going to make it our cause. Our goal is the safety and security of our attendees. Why don´t you put your money where your mouth is and prove that so-called GG-ers aren´t crazy, angry people by going to cons and being normal attendees instead of getting everyone in an uproar?

You simply want a stage for your cause and I welcome you to find it and scream from the tops of your lungs about it all you like. Here´s the bottom like: wear shirts with GG on it or don´t. If it causes no issues, then well your point is proven, right? But if it starts a bunch of trouble, the people starting said trouble can go right back out the way they cam in, sans a badge. We are not spending any more time on this. We have a show to run.”

Then Denver Comic Con continued:

“Please read carefully; I said no such thing. In fact, I just welcomed you to wear the shirts to prove your point”. – Denver Comic Con, via Facebook

Will Denver Comic Con really let GG supporters enter their con in May?

So by the looks of it. Denver Comic Con got cold feet after it´s first statement (that having a #GamerGate logo on your cloths = Offensive, and that you should leave the Con immediately), then tried to run a “damage control” procedure. The question remains however. Will the Denver Comic Con really allow people to wear GamerGate gear (as long as they behave). Or will they stop GG people from even entering the expo? And if caught, will they then throw you out from the con?

We will know for sure in May, as the Denver Comic Con event opens up it´s doors between the 23rd and 25th of May this summer. I just hope that the event won´t end up like the Calgary Expo fiasco…
