It can be tricky to know when is the right time to tip the dealer, especially if you’re in a foreign country and you’re unsure of the tipping etiquette in the country you’re visiting!

Even if famous casino hot spots like Las Vegas it might not be obvious when to tip and this can be confusing for players who are new, even playing online at 666casino.

But don’t worry – it’s not as complicated as you may think! First of all, remember why we tip – it’s basically as a way of saying thanks for their services and to show gratitude and this is the same around the world.

One piece of etiquette that is universal no matter where you are is that you should tip in the gambling currency you’re playing – for example, if you’re using cash to play, tip in cash or if you’re using chips at a table game, say thanks by tipping using your chips. Here are a few examples of when to tip the casino dealer in different places around the world.

Macau

One of the most incredible places to gamble in the world is Macau and is has become the destination of choice for gambling lovers and has many luxurious casinos to visit. Macau is an independent region on the south coast of China and this has led it to be known as the “Las Vegas of Asia”.

Although Macau is a melting pot of cultures, the tipping culture follows Chinese culture so by all means, players can tip the dealer when they win but only 10% is expected and it isn’t strictly customary to tip the dealer as in China there isn’t the same tipping culture as there is in the US. Plus – the tips will not usually be kept by the dealer but will be kept by the owner of the casino, which defects the purpose of tipping the dealer!

Australasia

Australasia includes Australia, New Zealand and some surrounding islands and they too do things differently to the Americans. In Australia the wages are much higher than in the US, Europe and other places across the world and as such, there hasn’t been a tipping culture and they go a step further by banning tipping staff in casinos.

This is because tipping staff may be seen as bribery and could lead to favouritism, so they steer clear of it altogether. Across the sea in New Zealand however, they are a little more relaxed and don’t ban tipping, but once again it isn’t customary to tip so players should not feel obliged to tip – unless you really want to!

Europe

Like many parts of the world, in Europe, it’s not expected that players tip dealers and this is largely down to dealers being paid a living wage and therefore don’t rely on tips from players to make ends meet.

In several parts of Europe, including the UK, tipping was banned in casinos for similar reasons to it being banned in Australia. Tipping in the UK isn’t illegal anymore, but tipping is not part of the culture in the UK in casinos so this is not expected of players.
