This is of course not news by now (since it has been known for days), but I just wanted to give my thoughts and opinions about GameStop’s Fallout 4 release date blunder. I´m going to start with summarizing what´s known first. So here´s the famous Fallout 4 picture from Gamestop Italy´s homepage:
As seen in the picture above, Fallout 4 is said to be set for a release on the 23rd of October. This might of course just have been an unfortunate mistake by Gamestop (the date might even be a guess on their behalf?), but then i saw what Todd Howard (Bethesda Softworks ) said in an interview with the German Gaming outlet Gamestar earlier this year:
“We get asked a lot, I sort of tell people we’re figuring things out. We’re taking our time, we’re extremely excited about it and the reason we’re kind of holding back right now is because we want to wait until it’s really there to show it to everybody,”
“We don’t want to kind of dribble it out, we’d rather say, you know, ‘surprise, boom, here it is.’ And make sure that moment of learning about something and seeing for the first time is really… I enjoy those moments for other games so we’d rather hold back and wait and just surprise everybody.” – Todd Howard, Bethesda Softworks via an interview via German gaming outlet Gamestar
So it´s not out of the question that Fallout 4 may indeed be released on the 23rd of October this year. As the release is five months away from now and we really don´t know how far Bethesda has reached in their development with Fallout 4 either. Maybe Fallout 4 is about 70-80% done by now? Anyhow, I actually believe that the leaked Gamestop date is accurate (based on Todd Howard’s statement, the pre-order campaign and Gamestop´s leaked Fallout 4 release date).
One thing is for sure though, Bethesda will most defiantly announce the official release date for Fallout 4 during E3 next week. So what do you guys and girls think? Will Fallout 4 be released on the 23th of October this year?
