Is the dream dead? Or is there still hope?

I´m not really the kind of person that believe in miracles or just pure luck, but sometimes you might actually get to witness a combination of the two. Just take the case with Yu Suzuki´s Shenmue 3, because who would have thought that the game would actually happen after all these years? (keep in mind that Shenmue 2 got released back in September, 2001, that´s almost 15 years ago ). Sure, the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign is far from over (there´s still 16 days to go!), but you get my point. As the impossible has yet again been proven to be possible with the right mindset, the support of millions of fans and a lot of hard work!

So when I heard about the “Sega Dreamcast 2 Limited-Edition Console” petition, I just thought for myself “If Shenmue 3 could be done, then Dreamcast 2 could be done as well!”. I know. It’s wishful thinking for sure, but the Dreamcast 2 petition has actually “almost” reached it´s 10,000 petitions goal (there´s only +1,900 petitions missing at this time). Anyhow, this is what the SEGA Dreamcast 2 petition page (the page was created by Ben Plato one year ago) has stated about the console so far:

“So that Dreamcast fans can enjoy Dreamcast games once again but with HD video output and the ability to play games from the internal storage.

The new console should have a new but similar design, wifi, wireless controllers (4 maximum) 720p or 1080p HD upscaling and HDMI output, internal 500g Hard Drive and a GD-Rom drive.

The console should be able to play original Dreamcast GD-Roms and also have the ability to connect online to a Dreamcast Classics Store to purchase and download classic Dreamcast titles in digital form where it can be played directly from the Hard Drive.

This would also open up the opportunity for more indie developers and it would be very profitable for Sega.

By making the console made to order, there is less risk of financial loss.”

If SEGA even releases the Dreamcast 2, then there will be a VERY limited quantity of the console.

That sure sounds promising enough, and let´s say that the SEGA Dreamcast 2 petition indeed get´s 10K petitions. Then Will SEGA even bother to care all that much about it? I mean, they abandon the Dreamcast in March 2001 (there´s still developers who make games for the Dreamcast though).  I guess that we just have to wait and see. Still, I have to admit that I really like the thought of having both Shenmue 3 and  Dreamcast 2  in my collection (hopefully).

So, do you guys/girls think that we will ever get to see a Dreamcast 2 in the near future?
