After you play games for a while, some truths become pretty universal, and everyone who joins the fold earns it sooner or later. If you just started gaming, you may not understand these just yet. But knowing them now can help prepare you for what’s coming.
On the other hand, if you’re an OG gamer, then you know exactly what we’re talking about. Here are 5 things every gamer knows.
You may want chalk-branded gear like gamer desk chairs and ergonomic keyboards to marketing, but they actually work. As a gamer, you sit for hours in a single spot clicking the same buttons. These can cause a lot of musculoskeletal problems if you’re not careful.
Ergonomic gear helps you get past that by taking some of the load off your muscles and joints. For most of these tools, you don’t notice the effect immediately. But 3 months down the line, your back and fingers will thank you.
If you’ve been gaming long enough, you can confirm that some missions are doomed to fail until you succeed. And many times, it’s because you pushed the wrong button and dogged the death blow from the boss, or you found a hidden room with health and manna.
Sometimes, you even win because of your skills and luck. You know you’ll fail so you spam the enemy with your most powerful attack and it ends up being enough. Whatever the reason, you succeeded when you knew all hope was lost.
This one’s a little of a spectrum because sometimes, you’re absolutely compulsive about saving everything you do. You backup your progress after clearing each room, just so you don’t lose anything.
But sometimes, you can get completely in the zone and forget to save. You’re killing enemies, gathering gear, and just having a good time. All of a sudden an attack comes out of nowhere and you’re dead in seconds. But the real horror comes after the game is over because now, you have to go all the way back.
As you build up gaming hours, this experience will become less frequent. Like other gamers, you’ll develop a system for saving your progress and focus on the things that actually matter.
Main quests are the lifeblood of any game. You follow the story, unlock new side quests, gear, characters, and interesting cutscenes along the way. But any pro gamer will tell you that playing the main mission to completion first is a terrible idea.
If you do that, you’ll be facing the final boss with basic gear and combat skills. With side quests, you can level up, earn legendary gear, and even find rare artifacts that make light work of any boss.
Always complete the side quests first. Unless of course, you’re confident in your ability to defeat bosses without needing extra help.
If you join a clan, you have a moral obligation to show up for that clan, participate in missions, and even take a fall once in a while. That’s because a clan is only as strong as its individual members and if you’re not contributing, you might as well leave.
Some clans actually take this rule to the next level and kick out everyone who doesn’t participate. That’s why it’s basically a rule of thumb that you only join a clan if you want to contribute.
