The world of portable gaming has gained tons of traction in the past few years. Thanks to the incredible growth of mobile gaming and the winning success of the Nintendo Switch, gaming on the go is once again at a stage where people can’t get enough of what it has to offer. Like all gaming platforms, portable gaming systems have their pros and cons.

Naturally, this means that while some games aren’t the best fit for the platform, others tend to bring forth an overall outstanding user experience. With that in mind, here are some categories that work best with portable!

Both of these games support lower graphics than their PC releases, but the touch screen features added to give them an interesting boost. On top of this, the quick fighting sequences and short rounds make them perfect for portable gaming!

RPG Games

There’s nothing like exploring a well-made RPG for hours. These action-adventure titles have always done well on portable platforms, and the insane success of Pokémon with earlier Nintendo consoles is living proof of it! Unsurprisingly, these games are still wildly successful on portable platforms.

The new Pokémon releases for the Nintendo Switch have sold millions worldwide, and even the rival Digimon Story games have made a splash on the PS Vita, and later, the Nintendo Switch.

One of the reasons why RPG games work so well with portable platforms is the nature of these devices themselves. It’s easy to get lost in these games for hours, and if you’re stuck to a chair the whole time, you might not have the best time.

Another reason for their success on portable might be the exclusivity of select titles in the genre. The Pokémon game series is easily one of the best representations of the genre, and it’s exclusively available for portable play!
