The world of portable gaming has gained tons of traction in the past few years. Thanks to the incredible growth of mobile gaming and the winning success of the Nintendo Switch, gaming on the go is once again at a stage where people can’t get enough of what it has to offer. Like all gaming platforms, portable gaming systems have their pros and cons.
Naturally, this means that while some games aren’t the best fit for the platform, others tend to bring forth an overall outstanding user experience. With that in mind, here are some categories that work best with portable!
Casino Games
Like portable gaming, online casino gaming has been on the rise for the past few years. More and more people are turning to these virtual iterations of casino classics, and we can’t say that we blame them! Online casinos tend to bring immense variety to the table.
In most cases, these sites host slots, classic table games, Jackpots, Live Casino games, and at times, even Bingos! There’s plenty to do at an online casino, and mobile users are taking notice.
Mobile seems to be the perfect platform for this type of entertainment. Since most of these games are fast-paced, they’re an excellent choice for gaming on the go! What makes this even better is the sheer focus online casinos put on mobile. Pretty much any new casino is aimed at the mobile platform.
The games are better suited to run on smaller screens, and many even come out with dedicated mobile apps. All of this makes playing on mobile as smooth as butter!
Fighting Games
Here’s a game category you might not have expected to see on this list. Fighting games might not be the most popular game category out there, but thanks to a few iconic titles, the genre is doing pretty well. Essentially, there’s nothing too special about playing fighting games on portable consoles.
The controls are relatively similar to what you’d find on PC and classic consoles, and the games themselves might even be a bit downplayed to match the lower computing power.
Alas, there’s still something about playing these games on a portable console that makes the overall experience feel much more exciting! A great example of this is the Mortal Kombat and Injustice games on the criminally underrated PlayStation Vita.
Both of these games support lower graphics than their PC releases, but the touch screen features added to give them an interesting boost. On top of this, the quick fighting sequences and short rounds make them perfect for portable gaming!
RPG Games
There’s nothing like exploring a well-made RPG for hours. These action-adventure titles have always done well on portable platforms, and the insane success of Pokémon with earlier Nintendo consoles is living proof of it! Unsurprisingly, these games are still wildly successful on portable platforms.
The new Pokémon releases for the Nintendo Switch have sold millions worldwide, and even the rival Digimon Story games have made a splash on the PS Vita, and later, the Nintendo Switch.
One of the reasons why RPG games work so well with portable platforms is the nature of these devices themselves. It’s easy to get lost in these games for hours, and if you’re stuck to a chair the whole time, you might not have the best time.
Another reason for their success on portable might be the exclusivity of select titles in the genre. The Pokémon game series is easily one of the best representations of the genre, and it’s exclusively available for portable play!
