It’s been quite a while since the last time I spotted a metroidvania that made me raise an eyebrow (or two in this case). Well, today was one of those rare days since I just stumbled upon a really cool-looking metroidvania game by faxdoc (an indie games developer and digital artist), a metroidvania that’s called “Rusted Moss“.
Right off the bat, up to this point, I had never even heard of “Rusted Moss” before…And that’s something that I find to be kind of funny, since the game is ready for a launch to PC via Steam in the coming months, and also because “Rusted Moss” has been under development for quite some time now (so I’ve been told).
Anyways, I think you get the idea. So I’m just going to get to the point. As I was just about to say. All that it took for me to get interested and curious about “Rusted Moss”, was to see one single gif from the game, as it then lead me to check out its latest trailer, and then I got totally sold on the game.
I also found the game’s plot, world, and background story to be a rather interesting one:
“Traverse the perilous lands of a dying world in this bullet-hell inspired metroidvania! Strong enemies emerge from distant lands as the iron inventions of men succumb to the decay of rust and time. Use a trusty grappling hook and uncover new powers to battle monstrous machines, powerful witches, and explore a new emerging world.” – faxdoc
As a matter of fact. I could also say the exact same thing about the said launch features for “Rusted Moss”:
Features:
– 20+ trinkets and abilities to modify your playstyle.
– 6+ bosses to find and defeat.
– Physics based hookshot that allows for complicated movement and high mobility.
– Open ended exploration with non-linear progression.
– Many secrets to discover.
– Different difficulties to suit your skill level.
– Procedural player and enemy animations that gives the game a dynamic feel.
So all of this combined (all the things which I have just mentioned), is the main reason why I’m going to keep a close eye on Rusted Moss” from now on.
Especially so, since the game is said to be ready for a PC release via Steam in early 2022 (which would mean any given day now, since we’re almost past the first month of 2022).
So, with that said, what’s your take on “Rusted Moss” so far? And will you give the game a go once it releases in the coming months?
