Two teenagers from the infamous Lizard Squad (and PoodleCorp)– a hacking group responsible for bringing down online services on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live in 2014 – have been arrested for their cyber crimes against Sony and Microsoft’s customers. Their distributed denial-of-service (more commonly known as DDoS) attacks affected millions of customers, and cost Sony and Microsoft some serious bankroll.

According to Polygon, Zachary Buchta of Fallston Maryland, and Bradley Jan Willem Van Rooy of Leiden Netherlands, were charged by United States lawyers in federal court recently. The pair was charged with “conspiring to cause damage to protected computers.“The Department of Justice also seized four domains associated with their group, Lizard Squad.

The Department of Justice launched an investigation into the group over a for-payment harassment service, as the group’s hacking attempt, used fake phone numbers to repeatedly call targets (with one victim allegedly receiving “a phone call every hour for thirty days“). The nature of the calls were graphic, and threatening.

Butcha was arrested in September, and is due to appear before a judge in Chicago this week. Early last year, similar arrests were made in the United Kingdom for other offenders.

If you are facing a DDoS attack on your PC, there are several things you can do to prevent it from happening:
– Reset your router
– Contact your ISP
– If you know the gamertag of the offender, report them to the system admin or customer support
– Install a great cyber security software program that will offer continued support and protection

DDoS attacks are pretty annoying, think of them like a group of people blocking your door, keeping the Pizza man from delivering your meal. Only…in this case your Pizza is your internet service so you can play Gears of War 4 on Xbox One S.

What methods of dealing with DDoS do you have that may be different? Please share below.
