Gaming can sometimes be a serious business. That’s a touch ironic given that it is supposed to be a fun and relaxing pastime, an opportunity to wind down and enjoy yourself away from the trials and tribulations of the real world.
Much as we love immersive, open world games like “Dragon Age” and “Watch Dogs”, let’s have a little time out and take a look at some games that really are games in the true sense of the word. Things you can pick up, play for a few minutes and just have some mindless fun on your phone or PC.
Classic platform games
From “Chuckie Egg” in the 1980s to “Sonic the Hedgehog” in the 90s to the “Rayman” series, platform games could be described as gaming in its purest sense. The ever-changing environments and new challenges of advancing to different levels keep the gameplay fresh and interesting, but a good platform game is one you can dip into any time, allowing your brain to check out for a few minutes while you do so. “Jetpack Joyride” is a great example. There’s nothing complicated about it, just power your jetpack-clad hero through the corridors, avoiding the missiles, lasers and other hazards.
Card games and slots
We all know how huge the online casino sector has become over recent years, and the reason is that games like slots, roulette and blackjack have universal appeal. For example, you’ll see commuters settling into a game on the train home after a busy day as a way to wind down. There’s a huge choice out there, but this Silveroak casino review from Online Casino BlueBook gives you a good overview of what to expect. And the fact that you stand a chance to win some money is always a nice bonus!
Puzzle Games
Long before anyone thought of PCs or smartphones, people were playing games like Sudoku or word searches as a way to unwind. And even the earliest mobile phones had Tetris, one of the most popular and widely played games of all time. Whether it is possible to improve on a classic is one of those imponderable questions, but 1010! Is one of the best attempts at doing so. As the name suggests, it involves a 10×10 grid, and when you form a complete line, it disappears to create more space. It’s free to download, so why not give it a try?
Sports games
Playing a sports game doesn’t have to mean getting immersed in leagues, team selections and long games. One of the best ways to relax and let your brain switch off for a while in the real world is with a round of golf, and it is just as effective as a PC or mobile game. Golf Star is recognized as one of the top golf games around when it comes to realism, but for simple, unadulterated, mindless fun, look no further than Super Stickman Golf. With 33 courses to choose from, you’ll never tire of it!
So, with that said. “Hopefully” you will find some use of this list of mine =) And I also hope that you will have plenty of fun with the games that I’ve listed in this post.
