If you engage in any conversation about the best films ever made then you best believe that The Godfather is going to come up at some point. A compelling story acted out by legends such as Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and James Caan all seen under the watchful eye of director Francis Ford Coppola, unsurprisingly resulting in what can only be described as a classic.
Due to the popularity of the Godfather, it is hardly a surprise that a game was made out of it. This isn’t always met with open arms though as a lot of games that are adaptations of movies are poorly received.
There are a number of different games that have been inspired by movies that have received negative press and subsequently flopped. These include but aren’t limited to:
Fight Club: In a completely unfaithful adaptation of the movie, the Fight Club game was a boring tournament-style fighter with a limited number of moves that got boring very quickly.
E.T: Released on the Atari 2600, the E.T. game is infamous for being one of the worst games ever created. Looper.com looked in depth at why this is the case, but the best description for the game is that it’s dull, as nothing is explained and you as a player simply wander around aimlessly.
Aliens: Colonial Marines: Despite Isolation being a well-received and popular survival game, the Alien titles that came before left something to be desired. Aliens: Colonial Marines took 12 years to develop but feels like it was made in a month. The game is boring and not challenging in the slightest.
The Godfather game which was released in 2006 manages to separate itself from the above flops. It was received with open arms from critics and fans alike as people found themselves engaging with the storyline and enjoying the gameplay.
The storyline is a large factor in what makes this game so compelling. When everything comes together you receive a lengthy and satisfying adventure game, which takes inspiration from some of your favorite characters from the film but then also draws from its inspiration.
As can be seen on ScreenRant.com, the movie didn’t subscribe directly to the book and as such, the game isn’t afraid to deviate either. There are elements to the game which were not featured in the film as new characters and storylines are created to keep things fresh.
The setting of the game also helps as everything takes place in New Jersey. You only need to have a look at a couple of industries that thrive in New Jersey to understand why it’s a good place to set up a high-octane game.
So if you look at their casino industry, for instance, you can see that thanks to the likes of Atlantic City, the gambling community in New Jersey, is one of the biggest in the world.
This is replicated online too as casinos from New Jersey have made a move to digital. Digitalization has revolutionized the gambling world as now people have access to the games they would usually play but right there in the palm of their hand.
There are so many now that websites such as Bonusfinder.com New Jersey are required to help people choose where to play. These websites will take what these different casinos offer such as games available and the current promotions that are being played and then show it to prospective gamblers so they can choose which one appeals to them the most.
By setting a game somewhere that has such a thriving community surrounding it, the Godfather game is able to take advantage of exciting backdrops, busy areas, and an interesting array of background characters.
When a movie becomes popular, a lot of game developers like to try and make a game out of it so that fans can become more immersed. This doesn’t always work as games such as E.T., Fight Club, and Alien all flopped, leaving fans more annoyed than anything.
The 2006 release of the Godfather did not fall into this trap and is regarded by many as one of the best movie adaptations of games ever made.
Many different factors contribute to this but some of the main ones include the storyline, the creativity in the narrative, and the overall setting. If you are a fan of The Godfather, then this game is definitely one you should try out.
