It should be said that Sony never loses at E3, and that statement has never been clearer than now. Sony started its press conference at E3 off in typical fashion: With a huge bang! As we immediately saw the trailer for “God of War”, which featured an older Kratos with a beard, and apparently a son. Throughout the trailer, we saw how Sony Santa Monica will be implementing new effects and gameplay into the series (including RPG elements, and different weapons). We don’t have the Blades of Athena anymore, instead we’re given a Nordic battle-axe, and our bare hands to fight with.

god of war e3 2016

Will Krato’s son grow up to be just as his dad? (an angry slaughter machine) Or will he become a little more on the calmer side? (I highly doubt it). Time will tell, but as long as the game turns out great. Then it´s all cool with me.

The title suggests that this is a reimagining of the game—as if we won’t hear reference to any of the past entries as it simply says, “God of War,” with runes around it. If this is a reboot of the series, it will be interesting to see what happens on the Playstation Neo with the new 1444p resolution.

From “God of War”, we’re immediately given something a lot of Playstation 3 fans will remember by namesake alone: “The Last Guardian”. Since 2010, this title has been in and out of circulation and production with Sony, but now that’s all over. It has a release date, and it’s coming this October 25th to be exact. Although we didn’t see any gameplay to put our minds at ease about the title, a solid release date was more than enough to appease applauding fans in the audience. With the conference still fresh we were given a very interesting inside look at a game sporting some serious diversity for a change in the form of “Horizon: Zero Dawn“.

horizon zero dawn e3 2016

“Horizon zero dawn” looks very impressive, but is it fun to play? We will know for sure in February next year.

The main character is a very determined female lead. Who from the looks of things, uses machine-like creatures to fashion weapons, gain experience points, and to learn about her world. She uses her knowledge of the elements to dispatch a gargantuan creature and zips away to save a village from certain doom as soon as she’s able to.

The game was talked about over three years ago, but nothing ever came from it for the PS3, so it being on the Playstation 4 is a great move—especially with what Nintendo has decided to do with “The Legend of Zelda“. And even though Guerilla’s games have always been very appealing visually. It´s a completely different story when it comes to the actual gameplay, as Guerilla’s games don’t always turn out as well as their graphical display. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We wouldn’t want a repeat of “Heavenly Sword” happening again.

call of duty infinite warfare e3 2016

The COD fans are not happy with what they have seen so far from “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” (just check out the likes Vs dislikes on the Youtube trailer…).

“Call of Duty infininte Warfare” was shown, and it even upped the ante form Infinity Ward and Activision. Fans will be more than delighted to know that a completely remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be included for DLC voucher for the first editions of the game via pre-order. While we’re on the subject of remasterd games, “Crash Bandicoot” popped up during the conference to let everyone know he’s still around, and is ready to return with Aku Aku tow. Unfortunately, the graphics look as if they belong on the PS3 instead of the Playstation 4, but if we can get past that, the gameplay could be amazing.

spider-man e3 2016 ps4

The new “Spider-Man” game is developed by Insomniac Games, exclusively for the PS4.

Winding things up rather nicely we also got a sneak peek at the new Spider-Man game exclusively for the Playstation 4 with Peter Parker taking us on a tour of Queens. His emblem has changed color, and we can see the gameplay will be large and open world for the character to explore immensely. And if we can be given an indication from baddies, we could be seeing Rhino (which means there’s a strong possibility that we’ll see “The Shocker”). However, no release date was given, but then again, none was given for a lot of games that were shown during the conference.

batman arkham vr e3 2016 ps4

“Batman Arkham VR” gives you the chance to see the world through Batman´s eyes with the help of the PS4´s VR-headset.

Batman” and “Resident Evil 7” were shown off for Playstation’s VR headgear that will be coming this Fall, probably around the same time as the Playstation 4 Neo—which doesn’t have a date yet. This time around “Resident Evil 7” looks like it´s going to take things slow again, and giving fans what they asked for (the FPS part has left the fanbase divided though). And that includes an increased difficulty, and a lot of frustration. And based on what we have seen from the demo (which is available on the Playstation Network) you wake up in a strange house as a camera-man for a ghost hunter style show, and must escape. As you traverse the house, you find things that will assist you, and eventually find a key to the backdoor to make your escape. Unfortunately, this is where a pretty predictable moment happens as you’re caught by a baddie and the demo abruptly ends.

resident evil 7 e3 2016 sony

“This IS NOT Resident Evil…. It looks like a generic Horror jump-scare game for Twitch Streamers…. WHY Capcom WHY!?” My thoughts exactly…(Robin).

And sure, while all of this might sound very cliché-like , It’s honestly better than the last two entries in the series. As “Resident evil 5-6” were two of the worst games in the franchise history, and while “Resident Evil 7” doesn’t seem to offer weapons with an abundance of ammo, suspense and horror could be amplified with first-person shooting. Besides, the game is still in early development so anything could change—if not entirely as we saw with “Resident Evil 6” before it launched.
