After a shock reveal from Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling, it appears that EG is restructuring due to Fear’s upcoming arm surgery
Shock and horror descended on Reddit, Facebook and twitter as Aui_2000 revealed his own kicking from EG the moment he got the news. Goodgame Agency’s (the company that owns EG, Alliance and Team Tinker) Accounts and Talent staff Kelby May told twitter users that “It was not the intent to release any info this way”, and that “There will be an official statement from the organization shortly”.
You can imagine the shock of having won Ti 5 with a team, and then getting kicked less than 2 weeks afterwards while still on holiday, no doubt. Some say this is a better option than being kicked off 1 week away from the roster finalization deadline but I say, why kick him at all?
An official statement from EG’s player manager Charlie “monolith” Yang:
It seems that the decision to remove Aui_2000 was triggered by Fear’s inability to play carry for much longer due to his upcoming recovery period due to his troubled arm. It is assumed that playing a support role will be less taxing on Fear’s arm, but hey, it’s Dota. No matter what role you play, you’re always clicking 10 times a second.
Live Update: Arteezy said on stream that Fear no longer needs surgery.
Personally, Fear should have simply taken a break from Dota 2 if he needed one and went into the Stand In position, making way for Aui to continue playing as a stable member. Under the new Valve guidelines for rosters, teams are allowed one 5-man main team with 2 stand-ins. You can look at it as EG not wanting to put Aui_2000 as a stand-in due to how good he is, and how much of a waste of talent it would be if he was stuck in EG as a stand-in, but it seemed that Aui_2000 had no idea this was coming. His first reaction was to rant on twitter and other social media, and that screams knee-jerk reaction from being utterly surprised.
Valve’s new roster demands comes with the introduction of the Dota 2 majors, a series of quarterly tournaments that span across the entire year. This is a move to introduce roster stability in Dota 2: teams will have incentive to stay together and work out their problems as major tournaments are more often, and Valve is putting pressure for stable teams by not allowing invites to be sent to shuffled rosters after a deadline. Right now, we have teams dissolving after finishing The International, more notably EG letting go of Arteezy and zai prior to DAC and the old DK disintegrating immediately after Ti4.
Current confirmed facts:
– C9 to disband, confirmed by manager Quantumpope and owner Jack Etienne. Quantumpope also assisting in rerostering of C9.
– Secret to disband, zai no longer playing professionally, going to study.
– VP staying as five.
Rumors:
– MVP QO and March’s roles undecided, rumored to be leaving the team earlier than expected. March has to go to army, QO has options due to his great performance at both ti4 and ti5.
– iceiceice’s team status from VG.iceiceice changed to Standin.iceiceice. Might be creating a new team with EE, puppey.
– s4 going back to Alliance.
