San Luis Obispo, USA — December 13th, 2018 — Global Game Jam, Inc announced today that site registrations for the 11th annual worldwide game jam that sees tens of thousands of participants from across the globe join in for a weekend of international creativity, close on January 4th, 2019.

The 11th annual Global Game Jam will take place January 25th-27th, 2019 in over 900 registered sites in over 100 countries around the globe and growing.

The Global Game Jam is a yearly event that unifies professional, student and hobbyist game designers in an international unified effort to create game experiences based around a central theme, which changes every year. Every year the theme is a surprise to challenge everyone simultaneously around the world, announced at the event kick-off January 25th.

Featuring keynotes from well-known industry visionaries Rami Ismael (Vlambeer), Brie Code (TRU LUV) and Limpho Moeti (Free Lives), Global Game Jam 2019 promises to be the biggest event yet with an anticipated 900 sites across at least 110 countries.

“The Global Game Jam has grown phenomenally in 10 years – in 2009, we had 53 jam sites across 23 countries, fast forward 10 years later and we had over 800 jam sites across 108 countries,” said Seven Siegel, Executive Director of Global Game Jam, Inc.

The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam that provides a common theme where amateur and professional game designers can join in, creating video games in physical locations around the world.

It brings together creative minds around the world to share experiences and express thoughts, ideas and sentiments through the medium of video games.

The weekend stirs an international, creative buzz in the industry, exploring the process of game development in every aspect, including programming, iterative design, narrative exploration and artistic expression.

Condensed into a 48-hour development cycle, the GGJ encourages people of all backgrounds to participate and contribute to the spread of game development and creativity in an open, non-competitive atmosphere.
