New tournament format, new bracket system. MarsTV Dota 2 League runs June 3-7.

MarsTV Dota 2 League’s promotional tagline was originally “a tournament with USD$322,000+ prize pool”, much to the amusement of the community. The current prize pool is $324,797, with the ticket bundle going for 5.99USD. Although it’s still a month away from the tournament, they are already shaping up into a great main event.

MarsTV has officially invited VG and iG to their tournament directly, allowing them to bypass the china qualifiers which both teams were unable to make time for. They have announced that their main event will have 10 teams, 4 international teams which are directly invited, 4 teams from the qualifiers, together with iG and VG.

Their new format will have 2 groups of 5 teams playing in a round-robin format, meaning that 30 games will be played across the two groups, 15 matches per group, with the rounds per match yet to be announced. The top 4 will from each group will qualify to the playoffs, which will be single-elimination “due to time constraint”.

MarsTV is streamed on Azubu.tv. Set your calendars on June 3rd – 7th, as we will be able to see the follow-up revenge matches play out in the tournament, since it happens after The Summit 3.

From MarsTV Facebook:

Invictus Gaming -iG and ViCi Gaming directly invited to the main event

Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming, two of China’s best, have received a direct invite to take part in the first season of this year’s MarsTV Dota 2 League in Shanghai, China.

The decision to not invite Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming to the Chinese qualifiers is due to their other commitments outside of China. As a result, it would have been impossible for them to complete their matches in the Chinese League. It was unconceivable for us not to see them in our own tournament, already one of the biggest in China. Considering their recent performances, it also made sense to give them a direct invite. They officially join Cloud9, one of our four international teams, in the list of teams confirmed for the main event.

The inclusion of Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming forced us to change our plans for the better. Our main event originally had 8 teams, but with Invictus Gaming and Vici Gaming joining the party, we will now have 10 teams. Two more teams means a new format. Instead of playing directly in a double-elimination bracket, the teams will start in the group stage. The 10 participating teams will be divided into two groups of five teams each where they will play a round-robin format. The top 4 of each group will advance to the play-offs while the teams that finished last in both groups will be eliminated from the competition. The play-offs will use a single-elimination format due to time constraint.

We also would like to clarify our point system for the Chinese league. While most tournaments award one point for each win, we prefer to give three points for the team that won two consecutive games. It’s hard enough to win one game, so winning two in a row deserves a good reward. As a result, winning one match gets you three points, one for a draw and zero for a loss.

We would like to thank you for your support and understanding. Friendly reminder that you can follow our tournament on our official streaming channels that you can find below:
