Press release:
The first edition of the Emotional Games Awards will take place Friday the 12th of February 2016 in Laval, France.
A jury of prestigious professionals will give prizes to reward the most emotional video games. The Emotional Games Awards are organized by Erik Geslin and Laval 3D Interactive, the Video Games and Interactive Media Department of the University UCO Laval.
Rewarding emotions in video games
The main purpose of this ceremony is to promote and reward video games which bring on the most emotions in the players. Despite a wide variety of themes and categories, video games rarely induce an emotional state strong enough to move the player to tears. Unlike various media such as cinema, TV shows or litterature. Video games causing rich and complex emotions (empathy, compassion, sadness, love) will be rewarded.
Numerous awards awarded by a prestigious jury
Numerous awards will be given by a jury of professionals from some of the biggest studios worldwide (Ubisoft Canada, Rockstar Games, Ubisoft Montpellier, Frima Studio …) to games wich most succesfully bring about emotions in the players
Other events : the Emotional Game Jam and the Retro Games After Party
Alongside the awards there will be a 40 hours long Game Jam based on the theme of emotions. Like the Awards ceremony, the Game Jam will be live streamed online. The Game Jam will allow developpers, game designer students and amateurs to experiment their ideas of emotional games.
An “after” whose theme will be retro games will take place Friday evening.
