This week the Nintendo Account site went live for registration outside of Japan. The Nintendo Account is the universal service that will be used for applications such as My Nintendo. The brand-new placeholder for the discontinued Club Nintendo rewards program. You can create an entirely new account or use the Nintendo Network ID to register. You can also register using Facebook, Google+, and Twitter (which can also be linked in your account.). The My Nintendo service (with a release date of March 2016) will reward players with points for purchasing games as well as play them for points. Which can be used for digital content, coupons, and such. And to start off this program (while the only site available at the moment is Nintendo Account). Users will be rewarded My Nintendo Platinum Point for pre-registering for the company’s first mobile app Miitomo once everything is set up in March.

I won’t be surprised if they said played some Nintendo games but I will be if someone mentions a Xbox One exclusive.
The iOS/Android smart-device app Miitomo has been mentioned last year around the Internet, but now the official site has launched. The free-to-start app (a model Nintendo has been applying as of late with apps such as “Nintendo Badge Arcade”) will act as a sort of social Mii Plaza but instead of collecting puzzle pieces and saving your royal Mii-clones you can dress your Mii (which can be created via device camera or from scratch.) in full attires, use them as social go-betweens, and create Miifotos. The social part of the app will ask you questions about you, which will your Mii will mention to your friends’ avatars. The Miifotos will let you create images using yours and friends’ Miis for whatever idea you may have and use photos from your device as backdrops for more interesting effects.
While the Miiverse has been a good example of Nintendo’s social services (considering how they handled the Swapnote issue), as the company is taking a big step in getting outside of its bubble. However, it remains to be seen how well (or bad) things will turn out for the English app. Nevertheless, having an app that’s more about social interaction and not a Nintendo device exclusive. Well, let´s just say that it “might” indicate that Nintendo starting to have more faith with their user base as well putting themselves outside their own hardware.
With that said, what do you think? Do you think the Miitomo app will be a hit or miss? And what are your thoughts on My Nintendo and the universal Nintendo Account system? Please leave a comment on your thoughts.
