I’m going to admit right away that I was somewhat skeptical about the Switch console when I first saw and heard of it. Then again, who could blame? I just wasn’t sure what the console was all about when I watched the very first trailer for the Switch in October last year (2016). Furthermore, when I read through Sharn’s “A brutally honest take on the Switch console up to now” OP (we published that post back in January of this year) I got cold feet about the Switch. However, once the Switch launched in March of this year I started to change my mind more and more about Nintendo’s new console. Why? Because I got to see some of Switch’s launch titles and upcoming titles in-action. In other words, I got what the console was all about and what it could do.

The Nintendo Switch console has sold over 10 million units since its release (2017-03-03). So I think it’s safe to say that the Switch is a huge success now (that’s about 1,1 million sold units per month!).
Well, I think you get the idea 😉 And if we fast forward to the now, then we got awesome Switch titles such as “Super Mario Odyssey“, “Splatoon 2“, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild“, “Doom“, “Xenoblade Chronicles 2” with many more to enjoy. So what I’m trying to say here is that I was incorrect about the Switch (my bad!). However, I’m glad that I was wrong, because if I had been right, then we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy all these awesome Switch titles (not to mention upcoming games such as “Battle Chasers Nightwar“, “Bayonetta” 1 and 2, “Yoku’s Island Express” with tons of other in the making titles).

Just “Super Mario Odyssey” only makes it worth buying a Switch console. Well, at least in my opinion.
So with that in mind, it came no surprise to me when Nintendo Sweden (Bergsala AB) informed us that the Switch console has now sold over 10 million units worldwide:
“Nintendo Switch released in March this year, but has already been sold in over ten million copies worldwide. This already before Christmas trade has entered its most important phase. Nintendo Switch is the first desktop console console that is also a portable game console. Easy to take anywhere and play at any time. Also easy to play at the same time with family, friends and acquaintances thanks to the fact that each Nintendo Switch is sold alongside two incredibly flexible hand controls, known as Joy-Con.
Nintendo Switch has also very quickly received an extensive game library, which clearly contributed to its success. A game that has been successful is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild who won the Game of the Year at the big American game gala The Game Awards. Other games that characterize are Super Mario Odyssey and multiplayer games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and ARMS that can be played online. From third party developers we have seen games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, FIFA 18, Rocket League, L.A. Noire, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Golf Story, Doom, SteamWorld Dig 2 and Stardew Valley.” – Nintendo Sweden
“We’re excited to see that all fans in Europe and all over the world are entertained by all the gaming experiences that Nintendo Switch can offer, whether it’s the latest adventures with Super Mario and Link, or unique games like 1-2-Switch, where players looking at each other and not on the screen,” said Nintendo of Europe’s CEO Satoru Shibata.
“At the same time, a new year is coming, and Nintendo Switch players can look forward to new experiences in 2018. Long after games like Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta 2, Dragon Quest Builders, a new game with Yoshi, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus from Bethesda , Mega Man 11 from Capcom, Project Octopath Traveler (Work Name) from Square Enix, Shovel Knight: King of Cards from Yacht Club Games and Morphies Law from Cosmoscope” – Nintendo Sweden
That’s also why I would love to send my congratulations to Nintendo and all the publishers and game devs that has helped the Switch to become such a huge success =) And with that said, what’s your take on this matter? And will you get yourself a Switch console? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
