There were quite a few people that were doubtful about Nintendo´s Wii U game Splatoon would be able to take the multiplayer shooter genre to the next level. At least, that´s how things sounded before the release of Splatoon, but once the game hit the market by the end of May, people had an instant change of heart. I can´t blame them for that though, since Splatoon is crazy fun to play (the game is like Super Mario Sunshine, but with weapons!). Not only that, the community for Splatoon is HUGE as well (fan paintings, forum threads, cosplaying ect).
So I think it´s safe to say that Splatoon is now a huge success story, speaking of success. Splatoon has sold over 1 million copies worldwide to date. This become publicly known when Businesswire dropped the news yesterday, and the exact sell numbers (physical and digital units sold) would be the following:
North America:
476,000
Japan:
368,000
Europe
230,000
Australia and New Zealand
20,000
And this is what Nintendo of America President and COO Fils-Aime had to say about the great news regarding Splatoon selling over 1 million units worldwide:
“Ever since Splatoon launched on May 29 in the United States, we’ve seen thousands of people go online to have fun in this colorful, chaotic competition,” “This milestone puts us in a nice position as we prepare to launch 11 more exclusive Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games before the end of the year, plus amiibo, digital offerings and games from our third-party partners.” – Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President and COO
So what about grades then? Well, the average grades for Splatoon are the following on Metacritic and Gamerankings:
Metacritic:
81/100
Gamerankings :
81.37%
Well, if this doesn’t make you eager to buy Splatoon and a Wii U. Then nothing will!
