After two very successful Kickstarters with Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera, inXile launches their third crowdfunding campaign with The Bard’s Tale IV.
While many may not be familiar with The Bard’s Tale series, Brian Fargo claims it was the first game that put him on the map on a young gaming industry, and he’s eager to revive that IP the same way he did with his other games, the new installment of the franchise will be a dungeon crawler RPG with turn based (or phase based) combat.
With a new game also comes a new engine, inXile will not be developing The Bard’s Tale IV with Unity, instead, they’ll be using Unreal 4 Engine this time, we’re expecting this game will be of a much higher graphical fidelity than their previous titles, they also claim the game will be influenced by Scottish culture and Gaelic music that will impact gameplay mechanics.
Coming out Strong!
inXile is offering a free copy of either Wasteland 2, The Witcher or The Witcher 2 for anyone that pledges within the first 24 hours on top of any other additional rewards you get depending on your pledge tier, Brian Fargo has stated many times that the first 24 hs and the last 24 hs are the most important when you’re crowdfunding a game and it seems he’s trying to maximize the pledges for the first day.
Within the first hour they have already raised 13% of the funds they need. inXile is a company that prides itself in not following the trend F2P models, releasing DLC or microtransactions, and if they continue to successfully crowdfund their games they’ll remain free of outside influences that would force them into such anti-consumer business models
(Disclaimer: The author of this article has pledged for all inXile kickstarters)
