I´m probably far from the only Gamer out there that misses the good Ol´ survival horror days (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark), because back then it was all about horror and fear. Nowadays, it´s more about action than anything else (with very few exceptions). However, that may change as Protocol Games (a Madrid based indie studio) have big plans for their story-driven third-person survival horror game “Song of Horror” (which is heavily inspired by the old-school survival horror master pieces, titles such as Silent Hill 1-3 for example).
And so far I have to say that Protocol has done a rather good job with “Song of Horror” so far (SOH looks really great thanks to the Unreal Engine and a talented dev team), as the atmosphere seems to be just right (you will get the great pleasure to visit a haunted house that´s full of paranormal terrors). Not only that, there will be 16 playable characters in the game as well (that should offer a great variety of gameplay and replay value for sure). That´s great of course. Nevertheless, if one of your characters dies in “Song of Horror”, then they will remain dead throughout the whole game. In other words, one single mistake could send your character into the land of the dead for good.
So, what about “heavily story-driven” part of “Song of Horror” then? Well, that remains to be seen. Because I´m somewhat curious to find out how Protocol Games will be able to keep the story together in the game (from beginning to the very end), as there are playable 16 characters to look after. I mean, sure the story could turn out great, but the story could also end up as a big mess (due to of all the character’s stories and the main story of the game). As the stories might collide with each other (It´s going to take a whole lot of work to avoid this from happening). Even so, I can´t deny the fact that Protocol Games got something really cool in the making. I also like that you will be able to investigate everything around you for clues and useful items. That part actually made me think about the old “The X-Files Game” (but with today’s graphics of course). Anyhow, all of this sounds really awesome for sure, but will it be enough to impress the Gaming community to help “Song of Horror” to reach it´s 50,000 Euro goal on Kickstarter?
Well, it sure seems that way. As Protocol Games has already been able to collect 1,7000 Euro on Kickstarter (with 35 days left to go). And “Song of Horror” has been greenlit on Steam Greenlight as well. So at this very moment, there is about 33,000 Euro missing. And “if” “Song of Horror” indeed gets fully funded (which I think it will), then the game will be released to Windows, MAC, Linux, PS4 and XBox One. However, there is no release date available at the moment (I bet that Protocol Games will reveal some more info about “Song of Horror´s” release date once the Kickstarter campaign is over, or even sooner than that).
With that said, what do you guys and girls think about “Song of Horror” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
