I don’t know how you have spent your weekend (I hope that it was pleasant though), but I have just watched “Prometheus“, tons of old “Star Trek Voyager episodes” and played through the “System Shock” demo again (not to mention the full version of “Phoning home“). In other words, I’m pretty jacked up on sci-fi at the moment. So as you might imagine, I got quite happy when the game developers behind “The Station” (which is a first-person sci-fi exploration game for Windows, MAC and Linux) contacted us:
“Hi there, We were wondering if you’d be interested in a piece about our upcoming game, The Station, for TGG. We’re a group of indie developers based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, and we’re building a AAA-quality space exploration game using the Unity 5 engine. Our team leads include AAA game industry veterans and former senior leads of award-winning titles such as Destiny, Bioshock Infinite, and Prototype.” – Cheryl Cottrell-Smith Community Manager, The Station

In “The Station, ” you take on the role as a recon specialist who’s trying to unravel a mystery which will decide the fate of two civilizations (what could possibly go wrong there? Just about everything I bet).
Well, that sure sounds pretty interesting, right? (especially the part about AAA game industry veterans who have worked with “Destiny“, “Bioshock Infinite”, and “Prototype”) True, but what is “The Station” all about really? A whole lot I would say, at least if you take a look at the actual game description by the game developers themselves:
“The Station is a first-person exploration game set on a space station sent to study a sentient alien civilization. Assuming the role of a recon specialist, players must unravel a mystery which will decide the fate of two civilizations. How would you react if we discovered a sentient alien civilization, challenging everything we know about biology, chemistry, physics, religion and answering the questions man has asked throughout history? But what if this sentient alien civilization was discovered in a state of civil war? Determining that the rewards outweigh the risks, an undetectable space station with a small three-person crew deploys to research the alien culture in search of a means towards a peaceful relationship. Unable to contact the crew, a recon specialist to sent to uncover what happened. What players discover will challenge their view of surveillance, imperialism and moral law. Welcome aboard The Station.”
Nevertheless, only time will tell how good (or bad) “The Station” will be, so we will know for sure when the game launches on the 31st of July this summer. As for here and now though, you can watch the announcement trailer down below (you might also want to check out the Axiom homepage, as you get a chance to read up on the in-game timeline leading up to the mission in “The Station). So feel free to share your thoughts on what you think about “The Station” so far =)
