The Power Rangers fan film that has been making its rounds on the internet the last few days has gone viral. To make matters worse it’s captured the attention of one of the most notable people In the franchises history: The Green Ranger Jason David Frank.
Frank recently voiced his opinion of the fan film, and wasn’t too happy about its conception or its distribution due to it being rated R.
“I know there’s a lot of fans out there that love it and all that stuff, but I’m just a PG-13 guy,” Frank said in a video posted to his page. “The cuss words, the drugs, all this other stuff —
it doesn’t fly with me. …The problem is, [the Power Rangers are] still connected with adults and kids. The ‘Super Megaforce’ and ‘Power Ranges Dino Charge’ are still on Nickelodeon, and so you can’t take a brand like this and reboot it so dark and gritty. … This still is a kids’ brand.”
It’s quite understandable just why a fan would have a problem either the film. Anyone who watched Power Rangers gen 1 knows the characters, and Is very familiar with the lore.
Saban is producing their own official reboot Power Rangers film, which is set to premiere In 2016 sometime. It’s still unknown whether the original Rangers will be reprising their roles aside from Frank.
The problem with the film for me as a critic, and was that it pulled to heavily from different elements without standing independently.
Transformers, Halo, Call of Duty, Terminator, and Kill Bill can all be felt In the 14 minutes.
The director isn’t a fan of The Power Rangers, and missed his mark completely. In all honesty for a fan film you should at least do the research before creating one hence the name.
The fan-movie was available on Youtube last night. But it has now been removed do to copyright violations.
But feel free to give us your thoughts on the Power Rangers fan-movie, and it´s shot list in the comments!
