***POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNINGS!***
Sleepy Hollow fans have a bit of shocking news coming their way for the upcoming season 3 premiere. Aside from certain recurring cast members not returning—which we’ll get to in a moment, the series seems to be going in a different direction this season in many ways. Clifton Campbell is a new showrunner who will be helming Sleepy Hollow season 3.
According to Campbell we won’t see the Headless Horseman or his human form Abraham van Brunt at all this season. He went on to say that we’ll be introduced to new framework, and rules for the mythology that we’ve come to know in the last two seasons of the show. For fans and FOX this will be a sharp change, but it could workout rather well. As far as casting is concerned, we’ll be seeing more than a few prominent faces disappearing from the lineup.
Captain Irving (Orlando Jones), Katrina Crane (Katia Winter), Henry Parish (John Noble), and Hawley (Matt Bar) will not be returning for Sleepy Hollow season 3. This gap will be plugged by some returning favorites. Joe Corbin (Zach Appelman) and Jennifer Mills will be returning. Fox and Campbell have also promised to introduce new characters that will fulfill the new mythological story arc that FOX wants to create.
New cast members being introduced to the show among others will include Shannyn Sossamon (Wayward Pines), and Nikki Reed will appear as real historical figure Betty Ross (Creator of US Flag). Campbell also spoke to TV Line, and shed light onto the importance of bringing Joe Corbin back as a character, and where it will help advance certain relationships with characters such as Jennifer Mills.
“Jenny and Joe are going to track down a lot of things that are going to help Abbie and Crane, and in doing so really do a deep dive on their past and their connections to each other. It allows Jenny and Joe to be more operative and on their feet in their support and help of Abbie and Crane and fills out the gang in a much more interesting, emotional way.”
One of the most surprising announcements for Sleepy Hollow season 3, is that it will be crossing over with another police procedural show. Bones will be airing back to back with the show on a fixed schedule, and will introduce fans of both shows to a different kind of crossover. How will Mills and Crane do alongside the Bones crew? We’ll just have to wait and see.
