This is the biggest question that is lingering over the industry at the moment. From what we have seen there’s corruption on both sides—Brianna Wu, Anita Sarkeesian, and Zoe Quinn have proven they can’t be trusted ethically, professionally or personally.
The Gamergate supporters have rallied and flown their flags to the effect that advertisements have been pulled from sites like Gamasutra, and Polygon. unfortunately Gamasutra has since had their support from Intel reinstated—quite possibly with very strict regard.
We’ve seen shots fired from both sides of the war, and had ethics called into question with the only rebuttal being the words: misogyny, Sexist, and Femisim.
We’ve heard these words so much that it feels like a song that keeps being played in an infinite loop. But why is it that these words are used so much without evidence to support their claims?
The answer is simple. Each time you visit an amusement park or movie theatre and order a drink they oversaturated it with ice and fill it 70%. When you look at it, it appears full to the brim right? That’s exactly what we’re being presented with.
A false representation of a bigger issue that we’re aware of, and on both sides it seems the opposition doesn’t see it. I can honestly say that from the Gamergate standpoint only a handful of people have been exposed as corrupt and unethical.
We’ve seen it grow out of hand to the point Internet Aristocrat has left the effort.
From the Feminist standpoint there is a laundry list of representatives who have come in and out of this without a mark.
We’ve also seen these same Social Justice warriors begin to adapt new technology in the form of an auto blockers for Twitter.
This “GGautoblocker,” designed simply to prevent communication between those on a poorly compiled list and those using the actual script. It appears to be the intellectual property of Randi Harper.
This forces critics and consumers realize three very important things about Brianna Wu and her friends.
You cannot be a male feminist and say you want equality, if you support their cause.
Brianna Wu and her friends don’t want justice, they seek a total approach to destroying Gamergate and the supporters of its campaign for equality in gaming, and the cleansing of the ethics of gaming journalist and developers in media.
They fail to focus on the bigger picture of events past the simple facts. If they don’t approve of certain games or media we shouldn’t either.
This isn’t a protest against sexism or misogyny, it’s a war on profit margin and the effects that extremist such as Anita Sarkeesian have on games and their creation.
To say that all games must be screened and approved by such methods would leave us with nothing short of games such as Flower for Playstation 3, and Final Fantasy: Theatrhythm for 3DS.
We can’t let this happen to our games, or our world we created. For proper change to happen Gamergate should be a force for good and not harassment against women in media or games.
The same should be said vice versa as they don’t display true equality in their campaigns against Gamergate.
Let’s make the change happen together and stop the Social Justice Warriors. We can change the future of gaming if we are given the proper tools—or create them ourselves—that’s the key to success. And the door will always be present to enter for anyone willing.
