Press release:
The Los Angeles-based (CA, the US) independent horror publisher and production company DreadXP and indie games developer MANGLEDmaw Games, are today super excited and happy to announce that their children’s cartoon-themed horror game “Amanda the Adventurer“, is now available for the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo Eshop.

“Amanda the Adventurer” is a found footage-style horror title that hides a sinister story beneath the colorful façade of the titular children’s cartoon. In this throwback to edutainment shows like Blue’s Clues and Dora the Explorer, players are cast as Riley Park, who inherits dear old Aunt Kate’s house following her death.

As Riley begins digging through their reclusive aunt’s attic, they uncover a series of videotapes that depict two best buddies — the sadistic plucky Amanda the Adventurer and her cowardly yet loyal sidekick, Wooly the Sheep — on wacky adventures.

As Riley watches more and more episodes of the long-lost children’s show, a creeping, sickening feeling emerges that something is watching back. Riley soon realizes that Amanda and Wooly seem to be communicating directly through the old television set. A gnawing sense presses Riley to stop, but it’s almost as if Amanda needs something.

Amanda the Adventurer tasks players with solving a layered narrative, fully uncovered through clever puzzle-solving and a careful approach to connecting the dots between cartoon episodes.

Players must closely examine episodes and interact with objects in the attic to trigger events and unravel Amanda’s dark secret. Repeat playthroughs unlock more of the story and additional secret tapes that dive deeper into the bizarre production of the cartoon, told through live-action cutscenes.

Key Features of Amanda the Adventurer:

Fun-Filled Episodes!: Features several play-along, laugh-along, learn-along episodes; there’s always fun to be had with Amanda. Just don’t upset her, OK?

A New Take on Analog Horror: Discover animated tapes that tell a progressively more unsettling story, all under the guise of a welcoming children’s cartoon

Nostalgia in Full Force: Play through classic, ‘90’s-style CGI that recalls a simpler era of animation

You Talking to Me?: Amanda the Adventurer brings back the familiar format of characters interacting directly with the viewer — a dream come true for any ‘90s kid… or is it a nightmare?

Want to Hear a Secret?: Use your wits and think outside the dusty box to uncover secret VHS tapes and unlock new narrative paths that lead to different endings!

Amanda the Adventurer is available now on the Nintendo eShop for $8.99 USD and for Windows PC on Steam (and is Steam Deck compatible). The game features localized subtitles for languages English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese – Brazil, Portuguese – Portugal, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish – Latin America, Traditional Chinese, and Turkish.
