Irem’s arcade history is full of excellent shoot ‘em ups and by the time Air Duel released they had already firmly established themselves in the space with legends of the genre such as Image Fight and X-Multiply (available on Vol. 1) or R-Type. Air Duel spices up the formula by allowing you to choose between a helicopter and a fighter jet whose distinct shooting and movement patterns make for a radically different playing experience. Of course, this game is best enjoyed in the traditional vertical “Tate-Mode”.
