IRVINE, CA – OCTOBER 5, 2026 – NC (formerly NCSOFT) announced today AION 2, its epic, action-packed, open-world MMORPG, has launched to a global audience for free on Steam PC and PURPLE (NC’s proprietary platform).

Following the original trailblazing MMORPG which hit PCs 17 years ago, NC began reaching out to Western players in March of this year to listen to their concerns and gather feedback to prepare the global version of AION 2. Upon its Early Access launch Wednesday, September 30, AION 2 hit the number one spot in Steam’s Global top selling chart across more than 10 regions.

A MODERN MMORPG
Reaching out directly to players, NC posted personal developer-led videos to introduce its team while announcing adjusted pricing to better suit Western players’ expectations and laid down a roadmap of upcoming reveals. Working as a global team, NC showcased AION 2 at the Summer Games Fest Play Days in June and at Gamescom in August. It provided public access to players in a Launch Scale Test in mid-September, followed by Early Access on September 30, creating the War For Atreia campaign. And, starting today, NC opened its doors for players to experience the giant, colorful world of Atreia.

Created specifically for PC, with servers locally in North America, South America, Europe, and Asia (Japan), AION 2 is localized in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian, and has an ESRB rating of T for Teen and PEGI rating of 16+.

BUILT ON A FOUNDATION OF FREEDOM AND FLIGHT
AION 2 is built on freedom of movement and flight, showcasing a best-in-class flying experience packed with spectacular aerial combat and environmental traversal. AION 2 features fast-paced combat that blends precision, timing, and positioning with traditional tab-targeting offering.

AION 2 brings a varied and deep set of PvE content from solo and five-player dungeons to 10-player raids, where the core gameplay experience is about mastering the game mechanics, movement, and teamwork. AION 2 also offers a variety of PvP activities involving high-stakes fights, from 1v1 and 4v4 arenas to massive-scale, cross-server RvR (Realm-vs-Realm) battles, and the return of the faction-based Abyss from the original AION.

AION 2 KEY FEATURES

STUNNING MASSIVE WORLD TO EXPLORE:  Built on Unreal Engine 5 including heavy modifications for character customization and multiplayer, AION 2 is a gorgeous high fantasy world 36 times larger than the original game with true freedom of movement.
ACCELERATED COMBAT TEMPO: Precision, timing, and positioning shape every battle in AION 2’s fast-paced combat.
DEEP CHARACTER CUSTOMIZATION: Players can pick from eight classes and choose from more than 200 customization options for their character.
NEW DRAMATIC STORYLINE: AION 2 is set 200 years after the original conflict. After the destruction of the Tower of Eternity, the traditional Elyos and Asmodian factions must navigate a shattered universe while confronting the newly empowered Balaur faction.
