Trivium vocalist and guitarist Matthew Kiichi Heafy has written and recorded a brand-new song, Wielder of the Plague, in support of Gunfire Games’ “Remnant II“, which has passed the 1 MIO sales just four days after its release on July 25th.

The trailer features a special bespoke edit of the song, with a full version of the song set to be released on Gearbox Publishing’s YouTube channel at a later point this year.

In support of the new track, Heafy, an avid streamer in his own right, will be joining a series of Remnant II live streams after his current tour through Europe with his band Trivium.

Heafy on the collaboration: “Video games and video game music has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. At 5, I beat my first video game (Super Mario Bros.) and my journey went to RPGs like Final Fantasy, and then FPSs like Doom. The first time I heard the music in Doom (I was 11) – I knew someday I wanted to make music like this in video games. I didn’t even know about metal or that the music in that game was metal.

Fast forward to 2023. I am so excited – honoured – privileged – and thankful to say I’ve been asked to compose some music inspired by Remnant II for the promotion of the game. I can’t wait for you to hear this.”

Wielder of the Plague arrives as the acclaimed band are mid-way through their EU tour. To celebrate the partnership with Remnant II, Heafy and the band will be giving away an amazing Remnant II package (including a Remnant II backpack and shirt featuring Matt’s logo as well as art and logo inspired by Remnant II created specifically for this collaboration – picture below) later this month.

About Matthew Kiichi Heafy/Trivium:
Matthew Kiichi Heafy is a Japanese American musician, best known as the guitarist and lead vocalist for the Grammy nominated heavy metal band Trivium. He is an avid gamer, practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and food connoisseur. Matt streams daily on his Twitch channel “matthewkheafy” playing video games, doing guitar clinics, vocal warmups and showcasing his Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes.
