Press release:
Amsterdam, The Netherlands – May 21, 2026 – Unknown Worlds today announced that Subnautica 2 has surpassed 4 million copies sold worldwide following its Early Access launch on May 14.

Subnautica 2 previously surpassed 1 million copies sold at launch and exceeded 2 million copies sold within the first 12 hours. Just five days after release, the game has now crossed 4 million copies sold globally. Peak concurrent players on Steam reached more than 467,000. Subnautica 2 currently holds a “Very Positive” review rating on Steam, with 91% positive reviews across more than 73,000 reviews.

Unknown Worlds also shared that upcoming updates throughout Early Access will continue incorporating player feedback. Planned adjustments include changes to creature aggression and detection ranges, along with improvements to survival tools and the overall gameplay experience.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the response from players around the world,” said Fernando Melo, Executive Producer of Subnautica 2.

“Seeing millions of players dive into this new world during Early Access has been an incredible moment for the team. Community feedback continues to help shape the future of Subnautica 2, and we’re excited to keep building the experience together with our players.”

Developed by Unknown Worlds, founded by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, Subnautica 2 is the official sequel to the genre-defining Subnautica series, which has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide. Set on a new alien world within the Subnautica universe, the sequel introduces new ecosystems, enhanced visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, and for the first time in the series, optional co-op for up to four players, allowing players to survive and explore together.
