Press release:
OCT 13TH 2022.
The Trondheim-based (Norge) indie games developer Breach VR today announced with great delight and thrill that their adorable VR puzzle-platformer “Kartoffl” (which tasks players with guiding an adorable group of spuds through an increasingly difficult series of levels), is coming to Steam VR and Meta Quest on November 3rd, 2022.
This unique experience is inspired by classic and beloved puzzle titles like Lemmings, but provides a brand-new perspective on those experiences, thanks to virtual reality.
Using an arsenal of tools, players will manipulate the space, objects and hazards around the spuds by hand to ensure they get through safely. Playable seated, standing, or in full room-scale VR, levels should be tackled from all angles in order to become a true spud handler. Getting to grips with Kartoffl is easy, though, thanks to snappy and intuitive controls designed to place players at the center of the action.
Deceptively cute in appearance, a challenging experience lies just beneath the surface in Kartoffl. Each level is littered with collectable stars, providing an additional level of challenge for players who really want to master the shepherding of spuds from one place to another. With over 60 different levels to explore, players can simply make their way through each one, or go the extra mile and challenge themselves to collect all three stars across each level?
Playing in VR provides a sense of space and tangibility that traditional flatscreen platformers aren’t able to, which is what makes Kartoffl unique. All players will be delighted when they get up close and personal with each spud, as they cartoonishly faceplant, tumble and fall over at every possible hurdle.
Martin Sivertsen, CTO and Creative Director at Breach VR said:
“Making Kartoffl has been so much fun for all of us here at Breach, and we’re thrilled to finally be able to release our little puzzle adventure for VR players everywhere to enjoy.“
Launching on November 3rd 2022, Kartoffl will be available through the Meta Quest Store and on Steam for $14.99.
About Kartoffl
The spuds are on the run – and they need your help! There’s no questioning their adorable cuteness, but their intelligence is another matter, as they carelessly stumble to their demise unless you place the correct devices in their path.
Partially inspired by oldschool Amiga classics such as Lemmings and Pipe Mania, the base premise of Kartoffl is simple: help the spuds get safely from point A to point B. The visual style is playful and full of character, while gameplay interactions are intuitive and snappy.
Playable in full room scale VR, standing or seated, Kartoffl offers a fresh style of gameplay where hectic, time-sensitive puzzle mechanics are fused with the unique affordance of VR to put you close-up in the middle of the action.
Now go save those spuds!
