Press release:
Wednesday, 24th June – Chengdu, China: Independent video games studio, Jotoyo Games has officially unveiled their new premium life sim, role-playing game Monster Fantasy. This exciting release for PC blends thrilling freeform moment-to-moment combat with village management and life simulation elements – wrapped up in a colourful Chibi aesthetic.

Monster Fantasy is being developed by a 20-person team in China with decades of industry experience. Early footage of the game’s combat went viral on the popular video site Bilibili earlier this year with over 1 million views of pre-alpha footage and today marks the first time potential players can learn about the game’s setting, background and aspirations.

“Our ambition is to break down the barrier between action games and cozy games, creating a world where players of different ages, skill levels, and play preferences can each find their own kind of enjoyment,” explains Jotoyo founder, Allan Xai.

“We hope Monster Fantasy can become a bridge that brings friends and family together. Core players can share the joy of gaming with the people close to them, while casual players can find a warm, welcoming world to return to. We also hope the game can become a quiet emotional shelter, giving players a moment of peace when they feel tired or overwhelmed.”

Monster Fantasy’s initial feature set can be seen below, with more content to be revealed later in the campaign:

FIGHT OR BUILD – YOU CHOOSE
This new roleplaying game’s core innovation lies in splitting the experience into two major modules: combat and life simulation. Each operates independently with players able to indulge in either elements to progress the story. They can focus entirely on hardcore hunting, or they can spend their time gathering, producing, building homes, and enjoying the slower-pace of village life. Players will be able to enjoy the campaign when both playing alone and with their friends in online multiplayer.

A NEW WORLD TO EXPLORE TOGETHER
In a compelling singleplayer and cooperative campaign, adventurers will create a customisable hero and journey across the vast Kingdom of Eldoras, teaming up with NPC companions to hunt mighty monsters. Between adventures, players can also befriend charming villagers and enjoy relaxing life-sim activities like fishing, cooking, potion making and other charming feudal activities.

HUNT, TAME AND EVOLVE
The kingdom of Eldoras is full of extravagant creatures big and small to discover and fight like the Nine-Tailed Fox, swift-winged Griffon, the ferocious Fire Dragon and many more. However monsters are not only enemies — they can also become your companions. Players will be able tame defeated monsters and keep them as pets to aid them in exploration and combat. Creatures will age over time, gradually evolving new abilities and skills – with players able to ride certain creatures into combat. Ecological factors such as day, night, and weather will also affect monster behavior, so players will need to learn about creatures before a hunt. Players can even recruit villagers to fight alongside them — but be careful, not every villager is suited for battle.

FREEFORM COMBAT
Monster Fantasy will feature four combat classes – Warrior, Mage, Archer, and Swordsman – each of which has their own dedicated abilities, weapon choices and playstyle. Skills are tied to each weapon, so players are free to experiment and evolve their character in any avenue they choose. A single character can unlock every skill. The Archer excels at ranged combat, the warrior relies on heavy gear and precise guarding to survive, the Mage casts powerful customisable spells against enemies, and the Swordmaster is agile, light-footed and deadly.

Jotoyo is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter to help realise their ambitions for Monster Fantasy and grow the game’s community. To learn more about Monster Fantasy, its features and to chat directly with the development team please visit the official Kickstarter page and Steam page.
