Press release:
25 JUNE 2024.
The Tokyo-based (Japan) indie games publisher PLAYISM and the Netherlands-based indie games developer duo Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman, are today very happy and excited to announce that their award-winning indie platformer “SCHiM“, is coming to PC (via Steam) and consoles (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch) on July 18th, 2024.
“SCHiM” recently enjoyed a successful Steam Next Fest, surpassing 200K Wishlists and with over 50K players trying out the demo. Rock Paper Shotgun praised the demo, calling it “pretty froggin’ delightful!” and IGN Benelux also highlighted its charm, stating, “After playing SCHiM for only half an hour, I already realised it’s a very special game.”
The demo is still available on Steam for those who want to check it out, and the full release is now less than a month away. Eager Nintendo Switch players can already pre-order the game on the Nintendo eShop!
About the game
SCHiM is a charming indie game about helping a lost shadow find its way back to its human by hopping around in the shadows. As you look for clever ways to move around in the world, you uncover small stories and charming details hidden in the environment.
Key features:
A story of a person losing their shadow – A schim is the soul and spirit of an object or living being. Everything in the world has one, and it should never be separated! You need to find your way back to the human you belong to, before it’s too late!
Unique 3D platforming – You can only move in the shadows, so you’ll need to find clever ways to leap into the shadows of animated objects and moving beings to use them as your pathways.
A beautiful abstract world – The color palette changes in each level to capture the setting, time of day and mood of every location you explore.
Each level has a story to tell – Each new level has its own living scenery with small stories to uncover, inspired by real Dutch/European cities and rural locations.
Hidden in the shadows – There are lots of hidden items to discover in SCHiM, and when you find them, you help other schim restore the connection to their thing.
History of SCHiM
SCHiM began as Ewoud’s exam project in early 2020, developed with Nils’ Indie Game Studio Extra Nice in the Netherlands. What started as a unique shadow-based platforming concept quickly garnered attention online, prompting a shift from a small-scale project to a full-fledged game. Inspired by Dutch/European locations & aesthethics, SCHiM is now a collaborative effort that blends creative vision with local inspiration.
